Royce J. Lopez, Guitarist

About Me

Classical Guitarist Royce Lopez began playing the guitar at the age of 7 performing a wide variety of styles, mainly jazz and commercial music. His interest in jazz music became evident as he soon began to transcribe by ear the musical compositions of Wes Montgomery, Pat Martino and Stanley Clarke. However, it wasn’t until his mid teenage years that he became enamored by the resonant qualities and tone colors of the Spanish classical guitar.Royce earned a Bachelor of Science Degree in Classical Guitar Performance from Hofstra University and a Master of Music Degree from the prestigious Manhattan School of Music upon which he graduated Cum Laude and studied under the direction of Classical Guitarist and scholar Mark Delpriora. He was chosen to perform in Master Classes for such world renowned artists as Jorge Caballero, Adam Holzman, Aldo Minella, David Leisner and Grammy award winner David Russell. Royce is currently active as a soloist, chamber musician and teacher in the New York area. He is currently pursuing the Doctor of Musical Arts degree at SUNY Stony Brook University under the tutelage of periodic instrument scholar and pedagogue Jerry Willard.
