MIKE RAND****Lead Vocals and Blues Harp****
Mike Rand grew up in S. Kingstown, RI and started playing harp at age 17 because "it seemed like the easiest instrument to learn". His fascination with the blues, however, started around the tender age of 12 when he first heard artists like Sonny Terry, Paul Butterfield playing with Muddy Waters, Junior Wells, Sonny Boy Williamson, and both Walters. Over the last 35 years, Mike has played in numerous bands including Big Cat Blues Band, Back Alley Blues Band, McKinley-Daniels Blues Band, and Full Moon Bandits. He has had the good fortune to open up for such national acts as Duke Robillard, James Montgomery, Roomful of Blues, Lonnie Mac, and Johnny Clyde-Copeland. Mike has become known for his "gut bucket" singing and engaging showmanship. He started the DDs(aka the Dirty Dogs) in 2004 with Roy in an effort to play the blues they love in a band they can call their own. Mike can also be found appearing with the Big Cat Blues Band around South and Newport Counties.
ROY SAUVAGEAU****Bass and Vocals****
Growing up in northern RI and attending the Berklee School of Music, Roy has been playing for close to 40 years. He has played with many bands over the years and, along with Mikey Roy and the DDs, he also currently plays with the classic rock band, The Jukebox Junkys, with whom he toured Europe in 1999.
JON HATHAWAY****Guitar and Vocals****
One of the most versatile players around, Jon grew up in Narragansett, RI before he went on to study music at the University of Alaska. Playing since the age of 15 and primarily self-taught, he has played with bands like PF and the Flyers out of Alaska, and local bands including The Urge, Big Picture, and the Rockin' Soul Horns. He is also the guitar player for 5 Flavor Discount and on occasion with Roger Ceresi acoustic. His influences mainly come from the great English rock bands of the 60's like the Rolling Stones, The Yardbirds, the Beatles, and especially Jimmy Page and Led Zeppelin. His deep love for the blues brought him to Mikey Roy and the DDs in March of 2007.
DAVE WATSON****DRUMS****
Dave has played and continues to play with some of the heaviest blues and R & B hitters of the region including Greg Hodde's Blue Reign, Gary "Guitar" Gramolini & the Grinders, Dick Willner's Blues Deville, Professor Harp, Soul Ambition, and Rory and the Blueshounds. Dave is considered by his peers to be one of the best blues drummers around.
"Mikey Roy and the DDs define the term 'straight-up gritty' blues"
