About Me

An International B.A. Music graduate (NUI Maynooth, Lemmen’s Institute, Belgium) and the holder of a Masters in Musical Performance (D.I.T). To date, Brendan has studied guitar with Gwen Moore, Benjamin Dwyer, Raphaella Smits, and John Feeley. He currently studies with German guitarist Frank Bungarten at the Conservatory of Music, Lucerne, Switzerland. A participant in over 20 master classes given by players such as David Russell, Oscar Ghiglia, Benjamin Verdry, Pavel Steidl, John Williams, Carlos Bonnell etc.... Brendan is a two time Feis Ceol winner, including the George Lowden Bach Prize and has performed live on both local and national radio. Brendan was featured on the Irish CMC (Contemporary Music Centre) CD No.5 CD playing the music of Brazilian composer Victor Lazzarini. Apart from his solo playing he is also extremely interested in ensemble music and is a performing member with the contemporary ensemble EAR. In 2002 he founded and still directs the NUIM Guitar Orchestra (the only large performing guitar ensemble in Ireland, 18 plus guitarists!) for which he has composed and arranged extensively for. Furthering this interest in ensemble music Brendan is often found performing with flautist Zoë Shannon. As a composers/performer Brendan premiered his first guitar concerto (Feb 07) at the National Concert Hall to a full house with a commission from the Music Matters organization. And most recently worked with the ‘Stringing it together’ youth ensemble where he composed a work for string orchestra with a traditional Irish fiddle section. Brendan currently teaches individual and ensemble tuition at the NUI Maynooth...
