CHILDHOOD DREAMS
My name is Mary-Elizabeth Gilbert. I was raised in the small town of Windsor, Quebec, but eventually moved to the big city of Toronto, Ontario. I grew up fascinated with the entertainment world and my biggest dream as a child, was to be a singer, actress or dancer or all three for that matter. I would lie on the grassy hill of the parsonage my family lived in, with the fragrant scent of lilac bushes, trees and a blue sky surrounding me, and stare up into the sky and dream for hours of all that I would be when I grew up.At the age of 15, I was going through many of the adolescent challenges young teenagers face at that age. New homes (many), new schools, new people to get to know, living with one parent and then the other. I was constantly berating myself and then one day I decided to stop hating myself. I started focusing on all of my accomplishments each day rather than my failures. I volunteered to be the person that would speak up in class within a group. I sang Romeo & Juliet's theme in English class when studying Shakespeare and received a standing ovation from the class. I even took three extra home study courses so I could graduate on time with my peers. I created moments of accomplishment, moments that I could be proud of so that I could change my life.
ADULT DREAMS
I followed my mothers advice, went to college for one year, took business courses and found work in an insurance office or legal field. Now almost twenty years later I still work in the insurance/legal industry, but am finally about to embark in a music career. Why now, many would say and my answer would be why not.A few years ago, after 9/11, I sang publicly for the first time at a charitable event. I sang "There You'll Be" by Faith Hill (from the Pearl Harbour soundtrack) on behalf of the charity that I was involved with, which was for HIV/AIDS and I sang for not only those who had lost their lives to HIV/AIDS, but to those who had lost their lives in 9/11 as well. I received a standing ovation.I knew after that moment that I wanted to create a CD of songs I had loved throughout my life, if even for myself and to give to my family and friends. I met Joe Chisholm in 2005, who became one of my bestfriends, in the insurance/financial planning business for as long as I have been in it. In 2005, he formed a band with his 18 year old son and two other people (The Chronicles) and they quickly completed their debut CD. There was my inspiration right there. He shortly started an independent radio show called IndieCan Music, which I became involved with and the rest, as they say is history. Its been a fantastic musical journey ever since.Between Joe Chisholm, a 22 year old musician named Joshua Bartholomew and Rayna, I have been inspired enough to start a career in the music industry as well as to pursue my own dream of singing and to create my own CD. I am treading into waters unknown, but I cannot tell you how excited I am to be part of this adventure.
THE DREAMS ARE FOLLOWED...
