About Me

Were a band. We make music. We have been making music for awhlie. We hope to make alot more good music. In the summer of 95' Grunge was in and Kurt was king. This new evolution of music appealed to those from all walks of life who were seeking meaning and purpose. Meanwhile, two kids sat on a porch in the Carolina’s formulating a plan. Steve and Benji, powered by rock n’ roll dreams and a Natural Light diet began to explore their existence through the guitar and bass. Each session was a progression into the unknown. In the same year of anticipation a kid bent on purpose and meaning challenged others to take part in his own artistic vision. Already armed with his own personal drive toward music he had arrived at one conclusion, he needed partners who respected and understood his musical ambitions. It wasn’t long before these rock n’ roll renegades stumbled upon each other. Through the redundant and mind numbing ritual of highschool and the not-so-bad partying outside of it they joined musical forces and began their journey. As they moved forward they were able to carry their innovative styles from back porches and grungy garages to a musical haven where ideas were born and often grew into song, the infamous Cabin or Sugar Shack, as some call it. They reveled in the days and nights spent here, not only because it was built by their own hands, but because of what it stood for. Here they began to come into their own, not only as a band, but also as individuals. But not all was well, soon enough egos and immaturity stepped in and split the band. Three years after the breakup, now 2006, the three reformed through a few random encounters and the same musical ambitions that drew them together in the beginning. Armed with new experiences from their personal and musical endeavors they began crafting a sound that reflected a growth and maturity. Comprised of a meat cutter who loved southern fried blues, an Air Force mechanic with an uncomparable finger-style, and a voice so dialed in that it didn’t need an area code, the band pressed on. In spite of varying musical interests each one agreed upon a style that can be described as psychodelic and funkalistic rock or whatever sort of name you can come up with. However, the band still needed someone or something to add a sense of structure to the sounds that ebbed and flowed from their beginnings. After playing with and trying out many, some of which were dear friends, the band finally found a consistent and talented drummer. Jay had been in several bands and was sick of the same old, same old. Looking for a group that allowed him to be creative and push the envelope he joined the group in 2008. What followed was a musical progression and cohesion that propelled Counterpace to its present state of being.
