About Me

Mitja has discovered his love of music as a very young boy and at the age of 5 started to play the acoustical guitar. At the age of 7 he went to musical school to get the basic musical theory education and also started to play drums. Those young years went by playing and singing along with records of the local pop singers that were popular at that time. At the age of 10 he discovered his talent of mixing music - at first using two tape decks and overdubbing techniques, later he started to mix two tape decks with a mixer he made himself. At the age of 14 he got two turntables that had pitch control and started to mix records and also recorded his first mix tapes. In the same year a friend introduced him to Technics SL1200 turntables. Mixing on that turntables elevated his mixing skills to a new level, so at the age of 15 he participated in a Slovenian D.J. championship where he went 4th place at the finals and started to play in local clubs. At the same time he came in contact with DMC championship and was impressed by the skill level of D.J.s in the competition. So he started to learn techniques of beat juggling and scratching and added them to mixing music. The last became his total obsession and at the age of 17 he participated in local DMC championship and also went 4th place at the finals. So when mixing two same records back and forth Mitja got the desire to make music from loops and to add other sounds to that base. He then used his old overdubbing techniques again and with beat juggling two breaks made a rhythm base of the track which he then overdubbed with a base line, some pads, piano parts and strings. Over the backing track he recorded a rap vocal. So this was the beginning of his career as a songwriter. Mitja presented a track to a friend who played saxophone and knew some guys that had a small demo studio in the area. The idea was to record the track properly with sequencer and synths. At that point he worked in the studio for the first time and fell in love with it, so he started to invest all of his free time into developing of producer skills. The original demo was also played to a friend D.J. Tomaž Lajbaher, who was also a talented singer and he immediately caught the idea and developed interesting vocal lines for the track. Mitja started to produce tracks in the demo studio and did a rap track called "Stop the war in Croatia" for Croatian compilation against the war in 1991. That track was also a first collaboration with Tomaž. At the same time the idea of having own production studio emerged, so they agreed with the owner of the demo studio to build together a new studio and add more equipment. This was the beginning of a project called Q-BASS, which they worked on in years from 1992 till 1996. An aim of the project was to produce club music. In those years Mitja was learning about production, recorded various local rock bands and also collaborated with other musicians in various projects recording or playing. He also started to study a piano and jazz arranging, because he liked jazzy and funky musical styles and wanted that elements to be a part of his tracks. As a producer he started a solo project with another friend D.J. Stanny D in 1995, called D-TEAM. Together they produced four disco tracks, of which "Frendy" got a lot of air play and received big response in local clubs. In the same year Mitja produced a duo called 2 ALIVE, which became local club anthem and tracks went to number 1 on radio charts. The track "Oprosti mi" got massive air play and is one of the most played dance tracks in Slovenia. Also in 1995 Mitja and Tomaž produced a track called "Pizza" under the name 2 MUCH and got the first record deal with Italian record label Landscape Records. The track got air play on Italian radio stations. In 1996 a duo produced the track "Gimme what I need" under the name MEL-O-DIC 3, which they released on a German label Manifold Records and it got limited success. In that year a duo broke apart and Mitja decided to proceed with building his own studio. THE CYBERS was a project which immerged in 1998 from the idea of making tracks for a dance group to perform on them at the dance shows. The project got success in local clubs because it brought a new dimension to dance performance. It consisted of a woman vocalist/dancer and two rappers/dancers. Some of the tracks were produced in collaboration with a dance duo TOMYorZOX. In 2003 Mitja started to produce tracks for his solo album, which he latter concluded under the name "Just playin' around". In 2005 he joined his forces with a friend D.J. Reverse. They formed a project called MICROSONIC and together produced an album "Electronic Music". On the album they also worked with two singers Tina Teršek and Amela Agic. In the same year Mitja also started the scratch project SCRATCH-O-FOBIA with a D.J. JK SOUL. They performed on various events and in clubs with their scratch show. At present he is part of a project called SOUND CONTROL which he conceived together with D.J. BENJAMIN, a friend he knows from the school years. At the moment he is producing tracks in collaboration with different artists from around the globe. div
