Kevin Reilly and his Four Strings

I am a bass player (double bass, electric bass, and Baby Bass), and I've dedicated my life to being creative. I had played funk, or jam-funk, in many bands in college, in which time I got to open up for G. Love and The Special Sauce, the Derek Trucks Band, Addison Groove Project, ulu, Biz Markie, and the Melvin Sparks band. For 5 years, I played in an Indy-Rock project, my band DEFTIME, which started as a dare, and then went a lot farther than I thought it would. We played the Stone Pony, the Lion's Den, Grape Street, and many other venues. On different occasions, we got to open for G. Love and the Special Sauce (again), and Robert Walter's 20th Congress. So, then I quit my job and went back to school for music, at William Paterson, where I did graduate studies in Jazz Performance. This really broadened my horizons. I was very lucky to have been around great teachers and young musicians who challenged and inspired me. During this time I've been lucky to perform with many excellent young musicians, and even some grizzled pros like Victor Jones (Stan Getz, Jimmy Scott), Grachan Moncur III (Blue Note Recording Artist), Elise Wood (John Hicks and others), and Jimmy "Junebug" Jackson (Jimmy Smith). I did studio recordings for Joshua Thompson (producer for Alicia Keys, George Benson, Luther Vandross, Joe and others), Grandmaster DXT, and Rob Fusari (producer for Destiny's Child, Britney Spears and others). I even played in a kind-of-edgy cabaret (for lack of a better word) band with Douglas Ladnier (who starred in six seasons of Broadway's "Jekyll and Hyde") and won the 2007 Playbill Award for Outstanding Male Vocalist in cabaret.
