About Me

The Academy of Music & Sound is based in the Grassmarket, Edinburgh, right in the heart of the city. The Academy has developed an excellent range of full & part time BTEC qualifications, short courses and private tuition classes. All of these are available in Guitar, Bass, Drums and Vocals. Using the skills and experience of some of the UK's top session musicians, alongside fully qualified teaching staff, we offer budding musicians classes specific to their chosen instrument and a practical approach to securing employment within the music industry. You will learn many classic songs and rehearse these in band format, craft your stage and performance skills and work towards regular gigs. The Academy, quite simply, offers the very best training in rock & popular music around! Our centre is fully equipped with the latest gear thanks to sponsorships from leading manufacturers such as Yamaha & Peavey. Students are given the opportunity to attend Masterclasses with world renowned musicians and trips to industry events and trade shows. Our full time courses are funded through partnership with Edinburgh's Telford College and funding is available.
Our masterclasses have included sessions with musicians such as; Shaun Baxter, Guthrie Govan, Andy Edwards, Phil Hilborne, Kevin Sanders, Mary Kiani, Tom Gordon, Simon Hanson, Dave Arcari, Paul Elliot, Ged Grimes, Karen Grace, Ian Hendry, Jack Casey, John Goldie, as well as business sessions with the like of Stuart Nisbit from Unique Events, Jim Gellatly from XFM Scotland, Vik Galloway Radio 1, Paul Mills, Karl Bridgeman, Brain McPhee, Steven Wren, Alex Hamilton from Gallus Music, Danny Wylie from Neon Tetra , The Musicians Union, Mani from Lighthouse Studios, representatives from the PRS & MCPS amongst many many others. These sessions give you the opportunity to hear from people working within the industry and get first hand accounts of how it really works.
