Profile GeneratorWhen making music, R&B singer/songwriter Ebony Childs relies on one central philosophy: keep it real. It’s a notion she carries with her each time she crafts a lyric or walks into a vocal booth.A native of San Diego, California, Ebony grew up in a large family where her four siblings, as well as eleven aunts and uncles, all sang. Childs discovered her own voice at the age of three when her mother, a gospel singer, encouraged her to sing in front of their church. Ebony accompanied her mother’s gospel group on tours around the country, and was competing in local talent shows and competitions by the age of twelve. At sixteen she performed as a soloist for the San Diego Symphony Orchestra and won first place in the gospel category at the California Teen Vocalists Competition. After graduating high school, Ebony enrolled as a Music Major at Clark Atlanta University. Shortly thereafter she auditioned and won the opportunity to sing for a local production company called Illfunk. Childs eventually left Illfunk and began working with producer Charles Harmon on the recording of her own material. With a music degree and her own demo album with Harmon, who composed several of the tracks, she went on to perform on the urban variety show, “Showtime in Harlem, and landed another high profile gig overseas where she opened in London for the 70’s era disco group, Heatwave.Ebony’s career gained even more momentum in 2004 when she began working as a background vocalist for Anotha Dais Productions, an Atlanta based recording studio promoting the career of artist Jovan Dais.In 2005, Ebony Childs joined the prestigious team of vocal coaches at Jan Smith Studios where she shapes the young voices of aspiring R&B and pop singers. Ebony continues to pursue her own creative path as a singer, songwriter, and performer as she helps others to do the same.
