A Brief History Of The Alternate Universe NFL:....The Concept:....Sometime in September 2006, I thought a glitch had occurred on my computer when I started getting random information appearing on my screen. At first I ignored it but it kept on coming through so I started to read it. From what I could ascertain from what I was reading it was information coming in from an alternate universe. If that wasn't strange enough the only information they were sending me was about American football. Not only that but a lot of the teams were familiar here in our own universe.....The first information I got was dated 1921 and involved a game between the Green Bay Packers and the New York Giants. The information comes in fits and starts but so far I have received info on their NFL from 1921-1936. However the AU NFL seems to have grown much quicker than our own and in some surprising ways.....Anyway about a year later in the autumn of 2007 I decided that I might as well publish this and so I set up the Alternate Universe NFL site on Myspace. I just did it for my own amusement really but it seems to have become quite popular. It currently has 257 friends and just past 3000 blog reads. It seems people like to see how their favorite teams are getting on in an alternate universe.....The History:....The Pre Bowl Era (1921-23):....As I said first season had only one game between the Packers and the Giants which Green Bay won. A year later they were joined by the Chicago Bears and the following year these three were joined by the Cleveland Browns and the Buffalo Bills. Together these 5 make up the founding fathers of the AU NFL. These early years did not see a final bowl game. Instead they had a kind of divisional round robin affair where each team would play each other once. Green Bay dominated these early years winning all three NFL Championships without losing a game....The Early Super Bowl Era (1924-1925):....In 1924 Super Bowl I was contested between the NY Giants and the Chicago Bears. However at this time there was no AFC or NFC. Instead there were just two divisions, the NFL East and NFL West and the winners of each division contested these early Super Bowls. By the end of this era the NFL had expanded to 8 teams with the addition of Kansas City, Detroit and the Jets....The Super Bowl Era (1926-1934):...This era was one of rapid expansion in the league and marked the emergence of the AFC and NFC. The first AFC Championship was between Cleveland and Cincinnati and Chicago took on the Giants for the NFC honours....The Early AFC and NFC comprised of two divisions in each, a North and an East with three teams in each division making a total of 12 NFL teams in 1926. By the end of this era, however, the AU NFL had grown to a mirror image of our current NFL comprising 32 teams. The last Super Bowl, Super Bowl XI, was contested between Oakland and Dallas....The Nations Bowl Era (1935-36):...In 1935 the National Football League changed its name to the Nations Football League and the Super Bowl became the Nations Bowl. The reason for this being that a massive expansion took place when they introduced a whole new conference. The Transatlantic Football Conference (TFC) made up of 8 teams from Canada and 8 teams from Europe. Nations Bowl I was contested by the Berlin Thunder and the Green Bay Packers.The following year 12 new teams were added, 4 to the AFC, 4 to the NFC and 4 to the TFC. Thus bring the total NFL teams to 60. Each Conference Now has four divisions with five teams in each. Berlin Thunder and the Atlanta Falcons contested Nations Bowl II....Post Script....This is all the information I have received so far. We are currently in the close season and publishing records. However I am eagerly anticipating the 1937 season. How the AU NFL will progress or why they chose me to disseminate this information I don't know, but rest assured I will get the information out to you as I get it.
