About Me

Want this badge?I found the pictures on this slideshow all over the web. Many were pulled from news sites, many were posted by the eyewitnesses that took them, all were smuggled out of Burma after the military junta cracked down on information exchange by cutting the country's internet connection and banned the use of cell phones four days ago. They are pictures of the protests in Burma and the aftermath. These pictures tell the story of events pretty much how they played out. As of now, there are protests happening all over the world in front of the embassies for Myanmar in the hopes of shutting down the tyrannical government which rules there. It is a government that is not above slaughtering the people who live there. These protests were initiated by the monks as a peaceful protest to show their disapproval of the recent 500% hike in gasoline and natural gas. Within a month, the protests had grown from just a few monks to thousands and the common people joined in. At first, the military just watched, but then they were called to take action by their leaders. People were shot at, at least nine were killed. One of the people killed was a Japanese journalist who was taking pictures of the protests when the military came onto the scene. One amateur video shows him being shot at point blank range. Many were arrested, what has happened to them, no one knows. The monasteries were closed by the military after being raided. Many monks were beaten and arrested, some were killed, how many, is anyones guess, as this has occurred since the internet has been shut down there. An envoy from the UN was there just the other day, but was denied the chance to discuss the situation with the leading general. He was only allowed to meet with lesser generals. He was able to spend time and speak with Aung San Suu Kyi. She is the rightful leader of Burma by popular vote. Since her election she has remained under house arrest and has been banned from appearing publicly. During the protests she stepped outside the front door of her house to pray with the monks that marched there. Since then, the route to her house and many of the temples has been blocked by barbed wire and military barricade.
