Kornell Kovach (Kornelije Kovac) was born on January 1st of 1942, in Nis (Yugoslavia). He comes from a prominent artistic family - his grandfather was a conductor, his father a music professor and a violinist, his mother a singer in the opera choire.He graduated from the Theory and Piano Department of the Music Academy in Sarajevo.His career as a professional musician started in 1961. Profoundly educated, he was able to exercise successfully in various fields of activities: as composer, pianist, keyboard player, producer and arranger.
After conducting various orchestras in Bosnia, he finally joined Sarajevo's most popular pop band INDEXI.In 1968 he moved to the Yugoslav capital, Belgrade, where he founded one of the most significant Yugoslav pop-rock bands ever, Korny Group.
As a composer and a musician, he won many music contests that took place in former Yugoslavia. With Korny Group he toured many European countries (SINGING EUROPE-Holland, ROCK FESTIVAL KATOWITZE-Poland, MONTREUX JAZZ FESTIVAL-Switzerland, EUROVISION SONG CONTEST-UK).He spent three years working in London, collaborating with prominent British musicians, such as Bernie Marsden (Whitesnake), Hans Zimmer,Joji Hirota,Ray Russel,Dil Katz,Paul Jones, Colin Hodgkinson,Mo Foster,Tony Sadler,Paul Robinson, Louis Jardim and Andy Pask.Kornell Kovach has been writing music for theatre, movies and television. Like the composer of pop and rock music he has been greatly successful. His songs with performers from ex-Yugoslavia (such as Zdravko Colic, Bisera Veletanlic, Olivera Katarina, Korni grupa, Generacija 5, Dragan Stojnic, etc...) were released on numerous LP-s in Yugoslavia, many of which were Golden or Platinum Records. His songs were also released in Spain, France, USA, Holland, Sweden, Finland, Norway etc.In 1989 he moved to Spain where over the years he worked as a composer, arranger and producer, collaborating with TV stations TELE 5 and ANTENA 2. as well as prominent artists such as Thalia, Rocio Jurado, Rosio Durcal, Juan Pardo,Antonio Cortes (Chiquetete) and Nacha Pop.He wrote music for over 50 movies, two of which ("Bez" and "Snovi, zivot, smrt Filipa Filipovica", both by Misa Radivojevic) won the Golden Arena at the Pula Film Festival in 1972, and 1982, respectively.
