somewhere between perception and nothingness i came to find an appreciation in noise. in the hours of stillness during which most of us exhibit nothing short of the mind’s awesome power to withdraw us from the world we’ve come to tolerate, i began listening to that world’s audible treasures. be it rain or wind, the creaking of floorboards or the rattling of wind chimes, or simply the rhythm of silence only few of us hear, i found in it beauty and potential.
it was in these sleepless hours i first began taking words and forming them to create something meaningful. as a distressed teen i discovered poetry and, what would soon come to be, lyrical potential. i became my pen alias, “Fallen Prayerâ€. today i am rarely acknowledged by that name. years passed, poems and papers published and acknowledged by teachers and readers alike. and one day, nothing. in the darkness of yet another wakeful dawn, a wall had built up around my thoughts. no poems, no stories, no journal entries. just, nothing.
it wasn’t until years later when i gave up hope in searching for the right words when i learned to stop thinking and simply listen. music had taken a hold of my perception since i was young, but with the ability to simply listen without analyzing, i began appreciating aspects of the music i had not entirely heard before. and i ended up here. i had found a new place in the world.
i shut off the computer and sat at the piano.
within weeks i had written my first piece, Severed Dreams. and thus, reNounced was born. it would become a channel, a potential, a dream. it would annex Fallen, at least for the time. it was a symbol of what was lost, but of the flickering light at the end of a very dark tunnel i was in.
reNounced, from god, from life, from faith, and nearly hope.
i come from a background without musical knowledge but i look for a home in the recording industry; the will to apply my knowledge and desire of replicating those noises to the artists who know how to use them. until then i welcome artists from all backgrounds to come into my place solace, my studio. people that truly understand what it means to hear something and find beauty in it for what it is to them.
be it rain or wind, a whisper or kiss, or just the sound of nothing.
beauty in nothing.
