This is where I say... I've been going to openings at Jonathan Levine Gallery, Last Rites Gallery, The Illustration Warehouse, Manhattan Classic Car Club, hanging with Travis Louie, Molly Crabapple, and Mark Texeira, and others at New York Comic Con '09, while meeting deadlines for magazines like Sports Illustrated, The Week Magazine, Crains New York, and the Village Voice. I'm not mentioning the project I'm also working on for Hard Rock Cafe. I've had a few busy days so far this year.
I grew up in Erie, PA as a typical socially awkward teenager who liked to doodle in his sketch pad. A partial scholarship to Columbus College of Art and Design expanded my art experience well beyond what Erie could offer. A summer job doing caricatures at a Disney-wannabe amusement park paid for school. Cedar Point for anyone who knows Ohio. I graduated with a BFA in painting and was the most likely student to (by accident) blow up the school kiln in the ceramics dept! I was painting murals in New York City a year later. (The kiln was fine.) After the mural company, I began working for Marvel and DC comics......................................................
I've been doing editorial cartoons and caricatures since 1997 for clients like The Week Magazine, The Wall Street Journal, New York Times, Sports Illustrated.................................................
.....All this while cultivating a gallery career. In '05. I won a Grand Prize in the Art @ Large group show in NYC. Since then, I've been in group and solo shows at La Luz de Jesus gallery in LA, Perihelion in Phoenix, Trinity in Philadelphia, Last Rites in NYC, and Banning and Low in Washington DC.
