Time to cast your vote for the best amateur interception!
—Dec. 17. 2007

OK football fans, now's the time to cast your vote for the country's best amateur interception at www.ups.com/challenge !

The eight finalists were announced today in the UPS Delivery Intercept Challenge Video Contest. All eight will win cash and steer a donation to their favorite high school or youth team. But voting from now through Jan. 4 will decide who will win the three top prizes, including the grand prize of $25,000 cash, a $10,000 donation to the team of the submitter's choice, and a tailgate party with me. We'll announce the winners on Jan. 9.

Picking the top eight from the 174 highlight-reel videos was a big challenge, but also a lot of fun. I was really impressed by the level of athleticism shown by all of these young athletes, from high school right down to the little guys. And it was great to see and hear the enthusiasm displayed by the players – and also by their parents, many of whom could be heard yelling from behind the camera.

I had the privilege of serving on the celebrity judging panel that chose the finalists, along with star New England linebacker (and The UPS Store franchisee) Rosevelt Colvin; Joe Bouffard, a high school and college football coach and director of Youth Football USA; and Joe Galat, a former college and professional football coach and broadcaster who starred at Miami University (Ohio) and is currently president of American Youth Football and Cheer. Those guys know a great play when they see one!

So don't forget to go to www.ups.com/challenge to view the eight finalists, and vote for your favorite. While you're there, you can still check out all of the other outstanding videos that were submitted to the contest.

Thanks to everyone who submitted a video, or took time to view and rate the entries! Good luck to the finalists! Cast your votes! And I'm looking forward to presenting checks to the grand prize winner — and his or her favorite team — at a tailgate party soon.

And now ... drum roll please ... here are the eight finalists, including the descriptions submitters included with their entries. Don't forget to view them at www.ups.com/challenge and cast your vote!

—Oct. 16, 2007

Listen up! Archie Manning here. I wanted to share some information on the elite panel of judges who will be reviewing the videos submitted to the UPS Delivery Intercept Challenge Video Contest ( www.ups.com/challenge ), and picking the eight finalists that will advance to the UPS Delivery Intercept Challenge Bowl.

The judges will select two finalists from each quarter. We're continuing to accept videos on the contest site through Dec. 3, and we'll announce the finalists on Dec. 17.

It's going to be a tough job — the 93 videos that are currently on the contest site include a ton of great plays from high school right down to youth, flag football and powder puff. I've really been impressed with the athleticism on display on the contest site.

Here are our judges, and you can see they should know great talent when they see it:

Joe Bouffard, Director, Youth Football USA: Known to his players as "Coach Bouf," Joe Bouffard has coached youth, high school and college football for more than 12 years, and is currently the receivers coach at New Canaan High School in Connecticut. He starred at Purdue, where he set an all-time sack record with 35, and at Broad Ripple High in Indianapolis. Joe Galat, President, American Youth Football & Cheer: A former college and professional football coach who starred at Miami University (Ohio), Joe Galat has the distinction of having held every position in organized football — player, coach, manager, broadcaster and youth executive. In addition to an extensive college coaching career, Joe has coached in the pros in New York and Houston, as well as in Canada. He also worked as national color commentator for CBC-TV SPORTS in Canada. He is president of American Youth Football & Cheer. Established in 1996, the organization currently operates in 44 states and has more than 250,000 documented participants.

Kickin' Off the Second Quarter ... more prizes are up for grabs!
—Sept. 12, 2007

Alright football players, coaches, parents, and fans: listen up! Schools are in session which means football season is here! And the second quarter of UPS Delivery Intercept Video Challenge Contest has begun!

My friends at UPS kicked off the contest on July 30, highlighting videos of some of the country's best amateur football interceptions. With the first quarter behind us, you now have three more quarters to get your videos in.

For those of you who entered already, you know that submitters can snag some fantastic prizes. The grand prize includes $25,000 in cash, a $10,000 donation to the school or youth football program of the submitter's choice, and a tailgate party with me. If you have a video in the contest, don't forget to tell your friends to visit the contest site -- challenge.ups.com – often to view and rate your video. A good rating helps your chances of making it to the Delivery Intercept Bowl, where online voting will pick a grand prize winner from among eight finalists (two from each quarter).

Just like the first quarter, there's a BIG reason to get your videos in early. We're giving out a $100 American Express Gift Card and a football to each of the first 25 people to submit a qualified video after the start of the second quarter, which kicked off at 12:01 a.m. on Sept. 4. We've received ten videos since the start of the quarter, so we still have 15 more of these participation prizes just waiting to be picked up. So if you have a video to submit, go to the contest site at challenge.ups.com now to submit!

Remember, you must be 21 to submit a video (to protect players' amateur status and college eligibility). So if you're a player younger than 21, make sure to tell your parents and coaches to keep those video cameras charged to capture your highlight-reel pick. And if you're over 21, remember that even vintage videos are eligible, so you might want to dig out some footage from your days on the gridiron.

Now that the contest has officially launched, it really is making me look at interceptions in a whole new light. We've got about 40 highlight-reel interception videos already and this contest will benefit some great football programs while highlighting the play of some awesome young players!

Continue visiting my page — and the contest site ( challenge.ups.com ) — often and for updates. Now, let's keep those videos rolling in!
