Gerard Thompson is from Lurgan, Co.Armagh Ireland. He started playing guitar in 1990. A few years later he was playing with various Irish Traditional and American Bluegrass bands.
He then progressed onto the double bass, playing with the widely acclaimed bluegrass band 'The Dusty Millers'.
In 1996 he was the first guitarist to win the All-Ireland Fleadh for accompaniment. Since then he has worked with various bands and artists such as Arcady, Danú, Na Dórsa, Barry Kerr, Bavan, Pádraig Rynne, Paul Bradley, Alan Kelly, Cathal Hayden, Finbar Furey, Ralph McTell, The White Hare Band, The Grainne McDonald Band, Malachi Cush, Brian Finnegan, Ben Sands, At First Light and The Tennessee Hennessees.
