Influences:
******************************************My Father, who introduced me to jazz in its many forms, at a young age.
The artistry of Frank Sinatra, Ella Fitzgerald, Tony Bennett et al... the big band glory of
Duke Ellington, Woody Herman, Glen Miller, Tommy Dorsey and so many others.
The frightening abilities of Buddy Rich, Gene Krupa, Max Roach, Elvin Jones, Ray Brown,
Jimmy Blanton, Charlie Parker, John Coltrane, Lester Young, Ben Webster, Gerry Mulligan,
Wayne Shorter, Dexter Gordon, Ornette Coleman... Dizzy Gillespie, Clifford Brown, Miles Davis...
an endless list of innovators and masters. My cousin Charles, who introduced me to The Beatles.
In my opinion the most astounding body of work from any single career, never to be equalled.Later, as I found my own tastes, I craved heavier and heavier forms of music.
Deep Purple's "Machine Head" absolutely blew me away and changed me, as did Led Zeppelin's early works of art. I loved everything and anything that kicked sonic ass, and was a huge fan of the classic bands like Yes, The Who, Pink Floyd, Black Sabbath etc.
I spent many years immersed in early metal sounds from Judas Priest, Iron Maiden, Metallica, but also loved the Punk explosion, much of what was called New Wave (a huge Killing Joke fan), and even the cream of the Disco crop.
One older friend, Ray Thaw, opened my ears to the sounds of reggae, calypso, hybrids
of jazz fusion, and many other forms of World music. All through those years as a young headbanger, I was open-minded and loved anything that sounded "authentic"... that was imbued with passion. I developed a taste for the outside-the-box thinker/genius model, and Frank Zappa was King. Canada's Max Webster bent my mind appreciably, and I recognize the influences upon my playing.
To sum up my influences and sonic love affairs would take a hundred thousand more words, and too much of your time.Let's just say I love every subgenre of the wondrous art form that we call music.
I believe it to be our one uniting force, and one of our truest gifts from the cosmos.
Sounds Like: THE AMASSED RESIDUE OF A LIFETIME LOVING MUSIC.
