Idrissa Camara was born in Kindia, Guinea Conakry in 1982. When he was 5 years old he went to live with his uncle in Conakry - Mamady Doudada Cissoko an international Singer and Songwriter, and spent his childhood immersed in this traditional Guinean music. Idrissa wanted to follow in the footsteps of his famous uncle who was a great dancer and started to study dance with Bangalli Bangoura From Ballets Africa de Guinea and later became dancer , choreographer, singer and percussionist with Bassikolo, drum and dance troupe from Conakry and toured with them around Guinea. He later travelled to Sierra Leone, Guinea Bissau and Gambia, playing his music to earn his keep and then was resident in Senegal for 5 years where he taught many people the traditional dances for the West African Rythms, working with Ballets African in Ziguinchor, Cassamance and in Saly, Dakar and Choreographer with the Bougarabou Ballet and the Compagnie de Dance et de Theatre , art traditional du senegal. Idrissa is a talented percussionist, playing traditional West African instruments such as Kirin, Djembe and Doundoun drums His favourite instrument that he plays is the Bolong( a sort of cross between bass guitar and double bass) and plays Gongoma, as well as dabling in a bit of Balafon , flute. Here at his myspace page Idrissa showcases his talents as a composer, using traditional rhythms. On these tracks the instruments and artists featured are Nabi Soumah on Balfon; Fode Camara also on Balafon; Mohammed Dafe( Cococo) on Djembe; Kader Camara on Kirin; Mbalou Fatoumata Camara , female vocalist and Idrissa on Bolong and vocals.
