About Me

PRESS/QUOTES:
- - - - - "Gossip with the Devil" - - - - -
"The newest EP from Denelian is spinning indie dance rock and a touch of the darkside with squeaking guitar riffs, keyboards blaring short bursts of smooth melodies and up tempo rhythms..."
- Plug In Music
- - - - - August 2007 Demo - - - - -
"Whether you want to call this an official self-release or simply a demo matters little for this Seattle indie punk four-piece. Pulsing through three songs of uptempo poppy and fuzzy indie punk, Denelian easily qualify for the magical ‘potential’ classification... Without doubt, though, the opening song “Am I Down or Are You High?” is smoking hot shit..."
- Exoduster.com
"Seattle group Denelian is making music that somehow has elements of '80s-retro, garage, and euro-inflicted dance music, but it's fun and energetic... will have you rushing the stage with a mob mentality, while also making the dance floor happy at the same time... But don't listen to this non-dancer; go listen for yourself.."
- spacecityrock.com
“Rock that ensues dancing, and sing-a-longs that are catchy in a good way. Main Story ‘Move your hips to the sound of Apocalypse’ because Denelian is releasing maybe the best sound to come out of Seattle since Nirvana… here is an underlying dirty but cleanness in Denelian. their melodies are smooth, sometimes so perfectly rounded it could almost be white noise, the good kind. Coupled with the monotonous voice of the singer, it fits hand in hand. In ‘It’s Nothing Personal We’ve All Got to Eat’ I can’t help but become entranced by Denelian’s slow creep through out the song. Denelian is a well-oiled machine coming out of the Seattle fog. They layer and intertwine without being caught into that horrible web of being cheesy. They allow their listeners to dance and sing and at the same time make their music just as easy to listen to alone. Denelian says “dance!” but also has a quiet call to action that makes this irresistible. They have an ambience that’s eerie and dark but poppy enough to make it benevolent… Denelian hasn’t reached their best yet and I am glad to say that because with what they have got now I can not wait to see what that would look like. See them live, dance with them in your car, or just put on your head phones and appreciate what there working for, just hear them! “

"...You wanna dance? You wanna sing along? Grab Denelian's (August) demo and enjoy. Fast paced and exciting Denelian offers smart indie pop at its best with just enough flash of 80s. Creative organized chaos of sound, this is what the underground scene has been trying to produce."
- Elizabeth Benavidez, Artsy Noise
"Three new tunes (Augsut Demo) played in the band's intriguing technical new wave style--kinda like New Order meets the Refused, with much less guitar. Devo and, at times, even the Buzzcocks come to mind. But these guys are much more atonal than yer average 80s retreads. There's something interesting going on."

"Shedding the Joy Division and Cure comparisons like a soiled coat, Denelian's dark, furious stomp now bears more connections to Nine Inch Nails than those pretty boys in the mascara, although neither comparison really peg them well any more. From start to finish, this album oozes an urgency, intensity… Denelian must have taken some 'Awesome Pills'… Denelian is a well-oiled, shimmy-inducing dance-punk machine that uses new-wave the right way: as a stepping stone and not something to be imitated. I am extremely excited to see what Denelian produces from here on out - they've really snapped themselves into shape and aligned themselves squarely on my 'bands to watch' list. "

"The second EP from this Seattle quintet once again finds frontman Kelly Dale mining his love of atmospheric 80’s rock by the likes of New Order, Magnetic Fields and The Chameleons. “Bankrolled and Bitten” takes a harsher, almost uncomfortably experimental approach – like Bowie crossed with a metallic Cars. The gothic crunch of Bauhaus continues to hover of the aptly titled “Ten Thirty-One Was Always Her Favorite Day,” about a chick in love with Halloween, although the band appears to be testing the waters of the more syncopated, industrial strength dance music of a Cabaret Voltaire. “Inside” is closer in spirit to the moody atmospherics of the debut, with a catchy, almost anthemic arrangement and closer, “Wealth of A Nation”’s storming, megawatt riffage shuffles along at breakneck speed with Dale, once again, coming across like a wild-eyed Bowie dipping into the Gene-Jenie pool and digging out a couple of his favorite New Order and Love & Rockets riffs. Another exciting release from this promising act – we await the debut full length with bated breath." (8/10)

- - - - - False/Positive EP - - - - -
"there's no denying that Denelian writes solid pop tunes…"
- Matt Johnson, Threeimaginarygirls.com
"Like a good bottle of wine, Denelian's False/Positive improves the longer it's open. And, in this case, on your playlist. This mellow, pleasantly bewildering album proves its richness with every listen. False/Positive caters to all tastes with a wide range of sounds reminiscent of New Order, The Magnetic Fields and even Suede. Allow the mournful vocals, photographic lyrics and surprising instrumentals-both piano and synths-to breathe. Then duly appreciate Denelian's beautiful multi-flavoured work."
- Miriam, 75orless.com
"Denelian is so in touch with their 80’s new-wave roots that the only band that sounds more like New Order might be She Wants Revenge… Denelian might be the bridge between Coldplay’s X&Y and New Order’s Low-Life, as the modern production attached to the vintage sound sounds surprisingly like something that might appear on Coldplay’s newest album… They’re very good at what they do, and you will enjoy it..."
-Stephen Carradini, Independentclauses.com
"Denelian is Seattle singer/songwriter Kelly Dale, accompanied by a roomful of friends on this 6-track debut. Like Peter Murphy fronting Echo & The Bunnymen, there’s a swirling, atmospheric, gothy dance sound to opener, “Weight of the World,” while the dark side of Dale’s soul takes over on “Lost 2 (In a room),” which also bears a distinct Bauhaus vibe and cascading guitar lines reminiscent of 80’s favorites, The Chameleons. Dale has a fairly theatrical voice, with hints of both David Bowie and Anthony Newley creeping in, and it serves him well on the emotional plea, “Kiss Me,” one of the EP’s best tracks a personal choice for leadoff single… I’m going to recommend you check it out and keep an ear and eye out for a full length early next year." (7/10)
- Jeff Penczak, Foxy Digitalis
"Seattle’s Denelian seek out long past ‘80’s alternative dance rock groups in the vein of Echo and the Bunnymen and Morrissey. You can also hear the gothic melancholy of Joy Division with adventuresome melodies and solidly catchy hooks. “Weight of the World” is easily the best song on the album and it starts everything off with its bright shiny guitars and infectious vocal arrangements. But that’s not to say that the rest of the EP is thrash; indeed “False/Positive” is an extremely well-written and superbly performed set of tunes. Be sure you pick this one up."
- J-Sin, Smother.net
"Kinetic Bauhausian stuff, the sort of tunes that bring on a bit of nostalgia for geezers like me… a fun little disc."
- Jon Worley, Aidabet.com
"... put on your dancing shoes as indie group Denelian rocks you with an early 80's alternative influenced dance beat..."
- Beth Thieme, 2006 annual Roosevelt Bull Moose Festival
"enlightening and energizing music..."
- Victoria Rodriguez, Rainy Dawg Radio, Univ. of Wash
"Denelian offer accessible dark rock on their EP 'False/Positive.' The almost-goth rock sound, with its monotone delivery of vocals and soaring melodies that swirl around you, balances the light and the dark while continually maintaining a somewhat sinister stance. 'False/Positive' transports you on a trip back to 80s new wave era without ruining your current hairstyle. It is best to listen to the pleas from Denelian frontman Kelly Dale when he sings 'don’t resist'." (A-)
