Project JIM is an experimental death metal band from Grenoble, France. It began in early 2007 as a 3 piece band with Irvin on drums and Marco and James on guitar, inspired by bands such as Meshuggah, Cannibal Corspe, Amoral and Textures amongst others. Things moved at a fast pace although slowed down by James who developed tendinitis in his left hand. They soon met Keithan (Maïeutiste & Caïnan Dawn), who took up vocals and, temporarily, bass. The band played a few gigs and started recording Near Death Experience, the 17 minute song they had first wrote together.
The project was put on standby from September 2008 to September 2009. Irvin had left for a year in Germany and James had to undergo surgery for a Discal Hernia, and his tendinitis was getting worse. They were still able to finish recording Near Death Experience.
During this time a lot of new material was written, and a recurrent theme and imagery started to appear in the music and lyrics: Self-inflicted mental torment, doubts, frustration, confusion, isolation; an everlasting struggle to find inner peace, which can only be reached by breaking free of any sense purpose or direction. By letting go and accepting the mind’s natural, unrestrained, peaceful disorder.
The band has since started playing again, with a whole arsenal of new, more mature, more powerful songs. Long time friend Rémi also joined as permanent bass player.
Merging a twisted sense of rhythm, a powerful and brutal sound, the dynamics and intensity of black metal vocals and some fusion-inspired melodies into something personal and new, Project JIM are gathering speed and are now ready to hit the road and spread their music around!
