Delille Thomas, also known as “Mambo Dâ€, one of US most creative and dynamic Latin dance performers and instructors, has since 1987 gained international recognition for his pure style and virtuosity. Mr. Thomas’ credits include:Stage- Avery Fisher and Alice Tully Hall for the ACE Awards, the Three Kings’ Day celebration and with Tito Puente for his first concert in 1995 as Conductor of the Lincoln Center Latin Jazz Orchestra featuring Winton Marsalis.- At the Apollo Theater, dancing with Tito Puente and his Latin Jazz All Stars Orchestra in various tributes to Machito, Martin Luther King, Nelson Mandela, Charlie Palmieri and Lionel Hampton.- Working with the world renowned Latin diva Celia Cruz and many of the great Latin orchestras at Madison Square Garden’s annual Salsa Festivals.- In 1992, he had the honor of dancing for President and Mrs. Bush of the United States of America in the “All-Star Fiesta Fund Raiser†at the famed Ford’s Theater in Washington , DC- In 1995, he performed at the commemoration of the 50th Anniversary of the United Nations in New York City.- July 1996 brought Mr. Thomas to the Summer Olympics in Atlanta, Ga. as a featured dancer with the Wynton Marsalis Orchestra.- In August 1997, he performed alongside legendary tap master Buster Brown as a special guest in “The Panasonic Village Jazz Festival†held at New York University.- In October 2001, he performed with his dance partner Glenda Heffer at the 21st Anniversary of Tito Puente Scholarship Fundraiser featuring Gilberto Santarosa.TV., Video & FilmsMr. Thomas has danced on “The Cosby Show†on NBC and “The Sally Jessy Raphael Show †on ABC. He also appeared on the “I Like It Like That†music video for the movie and “The Mambo King Album Tour†video. His originality and masterfulness are evident in his dancing in “The 16th Annual Salsa Festival†video taped at Madison Square Garden, and in the David Byrne produced “Make Believe Mambo†music video.In June 1996, Mr. Thomas appeared with Tito Puente and La India in a musical video called “Jazzinâ€, the title tune and name of the album that also featured the Count Basie Orchestra. Nowhere are his pure style and incredible technique more on display than in than in the instructional and entertainment videos “Salsa Nightclub Styleâ€, Vol. 1 & 2. He is also the featured dancer in the documentary film “Yo Soy Del Son A La Salsa†which traces the history of Salsa. In 2001, he co-produced and co-starred in “Mambo D Unplugged – The Art of Partner Dancing†instructional Salsa video.National & International ToursMr. Thomas danced at the “American Music Festival†in Philadelphia under the direction of world renowned choreographer Geoffrey Holder. He was the lead dancer in the 1992 “Mambo King Album Tour†with Tito Puente and performed before excited crowds in San Juan, Puerto Rico; Bogota, Barranquilla and Cali, Colombia; and Santiago, Chile. In the Summer and Fall of 1996, he toured Europe with the Eddie Torres Latin Dance Troupe and thrilled audiences in London and Leeds, England; and Rome, Milan, Naples and Florence, Italy. The “Mambo D Unplugged Tourâ€, in Spring 2001, brought him and his partner Glenda Heffer back to Italy where they taught workshops and performed in Rome, Pescara and Naples.
