This my space is unofficial and fan operated. If the real Jo Jo Gunne gets a myspace I'll gladly step aside! In the meantime, I'm gonna keep it as real and fun as possible. This is one of the best bands of the 70's, so let's ROCK together and keep their memory alive. Who knows.... Maybe ther will be some breaking tour date news in the near future!!!!
Jo Jo Gunne began as an outgrowth of the legendary 1960s outfit Spirit. Shortly after that band’s classic Twelve Dreams Of Dr Sardonicus album, group members Jay Ferguson and Mark Andes left to form Jo Jo Gunne with Mark's brother, Matt, on guitar and Curly Smith on percussion. The new group signed to the then-brand new Asylum Records, and over a period of two years Jo Jo Gunne released a total of four albums and several singles before disbanding.
One of those singles "Run, Run, Run" was a top 40 hit in the US and a top 10 hit in the UK.
Following the first album, Mark Andes left the band and was replaced by Jimmie Randall (b. 14 February 1949, in Dallas, Texas). Randall introduced a brighter bass sound, and helped hike up the band's overall volume.
Matt Andes departed after Jumpin' the Gunne, and he was briefly replaced by Star Donaldson. A more permanent replacement was found in John Staehely (born 25 January 1952, in Austin, Texas), who had played on Feedback, the Spirit album that followed Ferguson and Ande's departure. Staehely's overdriven guitar was a complete change from Matt Andes's Ry Cooder style slide guitar.
After the band broke up, Ferguson went on to record several solo albums and to score movies. Andes joined Firefall, and later, Heart. Smith went on to have a successful career as a session drummer, and also played with Spirit in the 1980s and Boston from 1994-2000.
The original line-up reformed in 2005, and are touring and recording again.I edited my profile at Freeweblayouts.net , check out these Myspace Layouts! Myspace Graphics
