Lone Star Trio

About Me

Dallas teen music prodigy Matt "the Cat" Hillyer (vocals, guitar) and San Antonio, TX native turned Dallas transplant Steven F. Berg (upright bass) started playing music together in their teens, circa 1991, in a Denton based rock band called the Red Devils. Upon meeting, they found a shared interest in rockabilly & vintage Country & Western recordings. Departing quickly from the Red Devils, Matt and Steve put together Lone Star Trio, got a manager & an agent, and started to tour across the US.
Taken under the wings of local Dallas legends Ronnie Dawson & Jim Heath, Hillyer and Berg started to make headway in the national underground rockabilly/punk landscape. Giggin' with Ronnie Dee, Mac Curtis, the Toadies, the Cramps, the band started to carve a nice niche in the rockabilly scene, performing at the 1st & 2nd Hootnanny's in Irvine, and festivals, car shows & legendary venues across the South.
After 4 years of hard touring & a steady recording schedule, Matt and Steve decided to end Lone Star Trio and focus on other music projects.
In 1998, Matt and Steve went on to form a 5 piece country band, Eleven Hundred Springs. Over the past 10 years, the group has went on to win many local music awards, praise from country music media and critics across the globe, as well as recorded 7 albums of real Texas country music. If you like Lone Star Trio, then you will definitely enjoy the country of Eleven Hundred Springs. CLICK HERE to visit the ELEVEN HUNDRED SPRINGS myspace.
