I'm gonna use this page to pretty much so track the build of my 1998 Z28 Camaro build-up into a drag car, so people i know can follow along. Some wont care, some will be interested and some will be like what is he doing to a perfectly good car! I do all the work on this car myself from assembly to fabrication and welding.
Little background on the car is I bought it used w/ 19k miles on it in 2002. The car was my daily driver for about a year and I did the bolt-on thing for a while and ran something like mid 12's @ 115mph w/ it. I then added a small cam from Thunder Racing and a RAM 910 VDS clutch and ran low 12's @117mph w/ it w/ the stock t-56 trans. After a few slider keys/shift forks in the trans and a driveshaft i descided to get rid of the T-56 and go w/ a built TH400 trans and start after my goal. After the swap of the trans i put the car into the mid 11's w/ no other changes to the car. Being very happy the results of the trans being consistent in times and 60' (1.5X). Next thing to happen was the stock bottom end spun a 5/6 rod bearing and thats where i decided to proceed 100% w/ my build. so on w/ the good stuff!
So far what I have completed all the major chassis work like install the 10 pt. roll cage, mini tubs w/ adjustable spring perches w/ 2.5" springs. The rear suspension consists of adj. rear control arms, adj. panhard rod, adj. chassis mount torque arm, Strange double adj. rear shocks. The front suspension consists of a tubular BMR K-member w/ tubular upper/lower A-arms, manual steering rack, Strange adj. coil over shocks. The brakes are Aerospace race brakes w/ a manual master.
The drivetrain consists of a race built TH-400 transmission w/ brake, Chromoly driveshaft, narrowed moser 12-bolt w/ spool, race axels and 4.30 gears.
The next phase of the build will be to finish up misc. tin work then wire the complete car from scratch, install the Big Stuff 3 engine management system, Magnafuel fuel system and finally plumb the brake lines into the car. Interior has all Autometer gauges for monitoring engine functions. Kirkey racing seats w/ 5 pt. safety harness and window net installed also. I have not chosen a motor combo yet but it will be from the LSX family
