Influences: Tempest was born out of a band called "Merkwood" in the early 1980's in Wellington, Kansas, a small town just south of Wichita. Originally your basic garage band (actually more like a "basement" band), Tempest became serious about playing actual gigs. The first was in May of '82 at Jay and Jans in South Haven. The next was as a warm up act for the band Token at the Wellington Memorial Auditorium. Then The Clubhouse was next, which would become the home base for most of Tempest's gigs. Larry left the band for one year, leaving open the door for various talented members to experiment with playing with the band. However, in April 1983, the original five formed again and began playing a steady schedule of club dates. Eventually, Sterling left and Tim joined as resident rhythm guitarist. Bill was replaced briefly by Jay on lead vocals and Jay was quite the front-man, exciting the ladies with his looks and charm and all fans with his blazing front somersaults when he entered the stage on "Shook Me All Night Long" or breaking a board with his head on "Bang Your Head." But in early 1984 Bill, Mark, Chris, Tim and Larry got together again and rocked south-central Kansas for months straight with kickin' rock and roll. Unfortunately, that fell apart and lead to the final version of the band with very talented Andy and Mike and allowing the band to produce "Don't Give Up On Me", one of Tempest's best. The original five reunited in July 2008 for the first time in 25 years to play at the Wellington Wheat Festival. Who knows what the future holds for TEMPEST?

Tempest memories

Hopefully I can get some old (and I use that term loosely) band memories to ring in with their fond memories...I am sure that will be a hoot. Here are some of mine: playing drums on "Cocaine" (the son...
