With irreverent lyrics and catchy-as-hell melodies in one hand, and a microphone in the other, jade jericho kicks rainbow flavored, candy coated, new-wave sugar-rock in the rear. Her voice slices through the modern punk-pop foundation of each track on her recent release, “hot pink!†with the ease of a seasoned rock veteran.
Originally from Jacksonville, Florida, jericho was raised by a family of Southern Baptist and Pentecostal Gospel Singers on the banks of the St. Mary's River. By the age of six she was leading the junior choir with solo performances and later formed a blues duo covering the likes of Lil Johnson, Bessie Smith, and Big Mama Thornton.
Now living in the Pacific Northwest, jade jericho’s eye-popping stage presence and infectious music have drawn comparisons to Debbie Harry, Pat Benatar, Shirley Manson, Gwen Stefani and Julie Brown.
One listen to tracks like “bad besbian†and “knuckledragger†and you’ll know she ain’t in the Bible belt no more; one glimpse of this neon diva and you’re thinking, “Oh THAT’S what happened to Rainbow Brite! She got dirrrty!
catch the candy addiction!
