Dean Yount & The Devilwind Band

Born on a stage,is a line that almost tells the story.Dean's dad was a musician,a guitar picker with his own 4 piece band.The band had the good fortune to work on the same stage with some of the greats such as. Gene Autry, Roy Rodgers and Eddy Arnold as opening acts. With the band being on the road so much and away from home. His crib was usually made in his dad's guitar case set up back stage.So it was no surprise when he grew up loving country and western music and the comfort of a stage.It was also no surprise when Dean formed a strong friendship with Foy Willing, head man of the Riders of the Purple Sage. Foy had long been an inspiration, both musically and in the movies as Roy Rodgers head cowboy. And Foy was a pretty good hand at song writing. One of Dean's highest interest. Foy took dean under his wing and helped him form friendships with those in the business. Such as Cliffie Stone, Gene Autry, Ray Whitley and Jimmy Wakeley. Things were good for awhile.Then tragedy struck, as bad as can be. And Dean no longer wanted to hear music. He closed his guitar case and through away the songs he had written. He forgot about music for the next fifteen years. Untill the healing would allow some interest to return.In 1990 Dean started writing again and finely put together enough songs for an album. Dean was able to form a very strong friendship with Jimmy Youngblood, a talented pedal steel player. Jimmy helped him establish friendships with other players. Darrell Massey lead guitar, Herman Hilkima bass guitar, Jerry Evans piano and Jesse Ruciliz on drums.In 1991 it felt wright again and the Devilwind Band was formed. The name taken from the whirl winds that blow across the desert floor.The love for country and western music was back again. And now a true and honest country band is available for bookings.
