Not so long ago in a suburb not so distant, a small group of friends came together to form what’s now known as The Have Nots. Molded from the remnants of the now defunct Social Outcast, Mudcat, and Speedkill, The Have Nots are no strangers to the underground music scene.
Relentlessly pushing forward they are determined to become one of Pittsburgh’s (and maybe even the world’s) favorite punk/ska bands. The Have Nots have performed at almost every venue in the area as well as some regional venues. Performing everywhere and anywhere people are willing to listen, The Have Nots keep a busy schedule and that’s the way they like it.
With influences ranging from The Misfits to Johnny Cash to Rage Against The Machine to The Mighty Mighty Bosstones and everything in between, The Have Nots music draws from their individual roots while creating a fresh new sound of their own. Each member comes from a different background in music. This combined with a couple of beers is what inspires The Have Nots music.
Dave Schroeder (“Schro“) handles the lead vocals and also plays the trumpet. Previously known for the speed metal madness of Speedkill, he has settled nicely into his role with The Have Nots. He had played the trumpet in high school and has turned it into a powerful weapon. With one toot of that horn he can bring a crowd to a drunken frenzy.
Brian (“Killa B“) Solomon supplies the rhythm. He has been playing since the age of three. When he joined The Have Nots, they took all but three of his drums away from him. Over time, he has snuck a few of them back, and plays them with masterful precision.
Kurt Fleckenstein (“Jorge“) rips the rhythm and leads. His guitar playing leaves innocent bystanders with their jaws to the floor begging for more. He is also known for his uncanny ability to play every song ever written (if you don’t believe me, test him).
Andy Gorscak (Shack) brings the groove. With thirteen years of experience jamming with Social Outcast, he is a local legend on the bass guitar (at least he likes to think so). There have been better and more talented, he has a unique style and charisma about him that sets him apart from the rest.
Enter the Brassholes. If The Have Nots were an engine the Brassholes would be the fuel. These guys joined The Have Nots in July of 2003. After rehearsing with the band only three times they jumped right in and played their first show with The Have Nots. You will find no lack of talent in these madmen.
Ed Piskor III (Cheech) plays the trumpet and the valve trombone. This guy is gifted. Some people just got it and, well, he’s one on them. He is blessed with an ear for music and a golden voice.
Ryan Gorman plays the tenor sax. When he’s not slinging pizzas or going to class, this self-proclaimed ladies’ man can be found slugging massive quantities of booze.
Dan Rusnak (Devil Horn Dan) plays the bari sax. This mild mannered lad becomes a hulk of a performer when he hits the stage.
Greg Sloan (Rufus) plays the alto sax. Dubbed the most talented by the rest of the Brassholes, it’s no secret that this guy can play the sax.
These four guys have been in The Piss Willie Jacksons and The Skauthentics together. But not until they joined The Have Nots did they become punk rock superstars known as The Brassholes.
The Have Nots are not just another bunch of pissed off punkers or whiney rockers. They are a group of talented musicians brought together by fate with one mission. To make music and have fun doing it. Also, to drink as much beer as they can along the way.
So do yourself a favor and go see these guys perform every chance you get. If you’re looking for a good time these guys will definitely provide it. Stay tuned because this party has only just begun, and remember We're omly here for the BEER!!!
