About Me

More Music by John the Cloud
If you like my music I would really appreciate it if you became a fan of my Reverbnation page. It doesn't cost anything, you'll get to listen to a lot more of my music than the 6 tracks on Myspace allows, and it will make me happy!
Just click "BECOME A FAN" on the player below.
Galapagos Video

This is my entry to the BBC New Composer Competition (Summer 2006). Unfortunately I was unsuccessful, but you can check out the winners at the New Talent pages on the BBC website. I used a version of my "The Shoulder of Orion" tune to accompany the visuals.
About My Music
I started playing a home keyboard a few years ago, and bought a few synthesizers over the years.
I can still remember my first synthesizer, it was a Yamaha Portastudio PSS480 which was a very simple FM synth. I spent hours with that thing, trying to make it sound like it wasn't a very basic home keyboard, and running it through my mates delay pedal into a borrowed Tascam 4 track to give it some oomph. Those were the days!
I find writing music can be quite hard sometimes, and quite easy at other times. The tunes on this page are the ones that seemed to write themselves. They were easy to write, but I'd say they are some of my best output.
I've had no musical training whatsoever. I'm self taught, and I came to music later in life after I left school. Many of my old school friends, whom I have not kept in touch with, might be surprised that I've took up music.
I compose the sort of music I like to listen to. I've only got my own tastes as a guide. It is impossible to be objective about your own work, so it's nice when someone tells you that they like what you have done. It is particularily nice when a complete stranger has been moved by a piece of music you've written
I've not really tried to put my music out there until now. I write music mostly for my own pleasure. I've seen friends get trapped in a cycle of submitting music and having it rejected, and that's kind of soul destroying, and not for me.
I hope that you like what you hear on this page. So far everyone on Myspace has been wonderful, and I've got to listen to a lot of great music.
The internet and Myspace is such a wonderful thing. To think that a few years ago what we are doing now would be unheard of. A piece of music that, up until a few hours ago did not exist, can be uploaded and listened to by someone on the other side of the world. Amazing!
Heritage Explorers
Heritage Explorers is a video project that I am making with Steven Parker. We have filmed the entire length of the Manchester, Bolton, and Bury Canal, and intend to produce a series of short and informative documentaries.
I really enjoyed filming Heritage Explorers, and I am enjoying editing the film, and writing the soundtrack.
So come with me and follow Steven Parker along the length of the canal.
