THE BLIZZARD

Welcome to the myspace of The Blizzard, one of New Zealand's rising underground electronic artists. Resident in Dunedin, the past few years have seen an exponential rise in both production ethos and the development of a signature sound. The Blizzard's songwriting and production is both powerful and dynamic yet deep and complex, creating unique atmospheres on a strong foundation of melody and intricate rhythmic hooks.The Blizzard's dj sets encompass quite literally the full spectrum of drum and bass music, from the heaviest filth, to the funkiest liquid. Along with forays into dubstep, electronica, and a talent for scratching and turntablism, they're djing at its most eclectic.Recent years have seen an in-studio collaboration with Vancouver-based producer Spinlock in 2008, resulting in the intricate high-energy neuro tune "The Skytrain Asylum" (named in honour of the crazed, drug-addled fiends encountered on the Vancouver train system in the middle of the night after studio sessions). Additionally, The Blizzard helped produce "Silenzio" with Auckland electronica/IDM artist/brother Kine, an eclectic unclassifiable track of bizarre atmospheres and accidental harmonies.2009 has seen continuing collaborations with Dunedin production partner Jayji, which have proved dance-floor fillers during their own dj sets.With a constantly-sharpening production style and songwriting ability, The Blizzard is one to be watched... watched like a hawk. With beady little eyes. And a sharp beak for pecking viciously at dead rabbits.
