The song ’Through A Glass Darkly’, with title stolen from a verse in Corinthians 11:13, is about the true nature of love. So sad, oh well. It’s a song about some sad, paranoid sicophant who cant find a girlfriend. The opening riff was composed by Adam many years ago, and is truly inspired. A darkling gem which is only marred in places by lyrical cliche.
My first attempt at writing lyrics and music resulted in ’House of Many’ done with all of the only three chords I know. It tends to border on parody in places and is saved by the chorus ’lust that stuns me like the sun’ which is a line paraphrased from a John Updike short story ’The LifeGuard’ who in is, perhaps, one of the greatest living American authors. Unless he’s dead of course. It is actually about the loss of friendship which comes from the end of a relationship and turned it’s penman into a kind of unservicable prophet. It is a tale of how two schoolkid sweethearts can perservear through thick & thin to overcome the obstacles of life and remain in love & best friends. The song ’Gernache’ is a hymn to Our Lady of Infinite Sorrow and is perhaps the best of all. It was doomed, in retrospect because it was based upon that ’Scottish Play’ and also because it was the first rock song to wax lyrically about mensturation. Oh love lorn and lost. It’s main riff and lyrics, dirty, and yet still sadly monosyballic, were dreamt one cold night by myself (Adam & his brother Glenn added to it).
