Darling Imperial

About Me

Formed in the summer of 2007 and and transformed through the bleakest of Michigan winters, the deceivingly familiar music of Darling Imperial is all at once moving, urgent, and, most clearly at the core, innocent. From full arrangements to the sparsest of melodic pieces, Darling Imperial's indie rock-tinged reverie transforms the most somber of sentiments and melancholy to cloudbursts of sweet nostalgia.
PRESS ABOUT DARLING IMPERIAL
"Darling Imperial are a rock 'n' roll Swiss Army knife...With so many different styles and musical paths coalescing, barrel rolls through numerous styles (new wave, indie, art-punk, soul, pop) would be inevitable, but the key is how tight they are, on record and live." -- Real Detroit Weekly
"Driven, melodic goodness played with an unpretentious panache, passion and precision..." -- The Metro Times
"...a slight shoegaze feel mixed with a teaspoon of alt-country...Sarah Sadovsky has a tinge of Chrissie Hynde...like Slowdive meets Old 97’s meets The Pretenders." -- IdDream.com
"...[A] strong emphasis on the delicate yet powerful vocals of singer Sarah Sadovsky. Their sound is reminiscent of Feist, Frida Hyvonen or Stereolab but with a slight twist." -- Girl in Germany
"...the stunning voice of singer Sarah Sadovsky is brought to life by the inviting, melodic music that brings out a range of emotions through every song." -- localmusiclife.com
"...a new project of some Detroit veterans, boasts an amazing lead singer by the name of Sarah Sadovsky. Imagine White Chalk album-era PJ Harvey, mixed with a little Tori Amos, but certainly not as old or weird." -- Detroit Riot
"[A] standout act." -- Rachel May, Detroit Free Press
PRESS ABOUT 'I KNOW EVERYONE YOU KNOW'
"At its core, it has the soul, throaty growl and stage-side fist clenched feeling of those garage days, but reaching back to the jangly-fied melody-heavy rock of 60’s brit-pop. Take all this tambourine-tapped, hand-clapped, head-bopped goodness and give it the wings of classic 80’s new-wave college rock and add in rocket power of those burning grimace, pedal-pushed guitar solos and you get quite a swirled serum decanted into the cracks of this 6-song EP...it’s a wide arc of ideas, styles and talents coalescing" -- Deep Cutz
"[I Know Everyone You Know] strengthens the initial Aimee Mann, Pretenders vibe I was getting from their live show...Go see them live." -- Laura Witkowski / Pillow Fights & Boxing Tuesday
