Hip Pocket: A Tasty Blend of Urban Contemporary Music -

Hip Pocket was formed in 2001 by Adam Rohrlick. The group has established itself as a highly professional and versatile band playing a variety of musical styles including rock, pop, jazz, funk, Latin, soul, and rhythm and blues. Hip Pocket provides the perfect musical accompaniment for parties, weddings, and corporate events, playing familiar tunes with soulful vocals, smooth saxophone sounds and tasteful guitar melodies. Hip Pocket easily adjusts its musical selections throughout the evening to suit the mood and demographic of the guests in the room. The group performs familiar classics by Stevie Wonder and Marvin Gaye, as well as recent hits by Santana and Sheryl Crow. Latin music styles such as mambo, Bossa Nova, and samba are occasionally spun into the mix, as are nu-jazz grooves by artists such as Ronny Jordan and St. Germain. With its professionalism, skilled musicianship, and varied repertoire, Hip Pocket assures a satisfying and memorable evening.

Band Members: ADAM ROHRLICK. Hip Pocket is led by Adam Rohrlick, a multi-instrumentalist with over 25 years of experience as a professional musician. Adam performs on guitar, saxophones and keyboards. He is also a skilled producer, arranger, songwriter and music teacher. Adam’s previous work experience includes a five-year tenure in the lounge of the Hotel Vancouver (1996-2000) and steady engagements at The Panorama Roof of the Hotel Vancouver (1994-1995), The Four Seasons Hotel (1993-1994) and Sunday Smooth Jazz Brunch at the Dockside Restaurant in the Granville Island Hotel (2006-2008).
As a recording artist and session musician, Adam has played on CBC TV's Triple Sensation and CTV's Canadian Idol as well as numerous CD recordings and film soundtracks and live on CBC Radio One. He has performed in Japan, Spain, Los Angeles, New Orleans, throughout Canada, and on cruise ships from Alaska through the Caribbean to New York. He appeared in concert with Gabriel Mark Hasselbach and the Jazz Perpetrators during the 1999 Vancouver Du Maurier International Jazz Festival, at the Commodore Ballroom for Octoberfests 1993 to 1996 with Peter Juric & The Continentals. Adam was a regular guest featured at the Yale’s weekly blues Super Session from 1997 to 1999 and performed at the Plaza of Nations with Jake and Elwood’s Blues Brothers Revue during the 2001 World Figure Skating Championships.
Adam has performed with many well-known artists including Michael Buble’, Colin James, Michael Kaeshammer, Angela Kelman's Polyester Philharmonic. Kenny Wayne, Mike Reno of Loverboy, Jim Byrnes, Beverly Staunton, Tom Arntzen, Tania Hancheroff, Jim Foster, Kim Kuzma, Mike Henry & the Big Dawg Band, Lori Paul, David Steele, Kelly Brock and Neil James Harnett.
In addition to leading Hip Pocket in its various incarnations, Adam performs regularly as a sideman with Vancouver, B.C. based artists such as Last Resort - Tribute to the Eagles, Sibel Thrasher, Saffron Henderson, Luis Giraldo, and Amanda Wood.
Adam served as a juror for the 2000 Canadian Juno Awards in the Roots and Traditional Solo category. In both 1997 and 1998 he served as a judge for the B.C. Country Music Association’s Talent Search and song writing competition.
CATHERINE ST.GERMAIN - vocals
Catherine is an accomplished singer who has performed throughout North America, Europe and Asia. Her father is singer Ray St. Germain, of the syndicated television show "Big Sky Country". Catherine co-hosted and performed regularly on the weekly series that ran for 13 years. She has had the pleasure of working with, Patricia Conroy, Michelle Wright, Alan Thicke, David Foster, Paul Rodgers, Ray Charles, Natalie Cole, Loverboy and many more, including her late uncle, the legendary Lenny Breau.
Catherine is a favorite among songwriters including Bruce Miller ("The Fear Of Being Alone" - Reba McIntyre) and Daryl Burgess ("Just Came Back" - Colin James, "Where I'm Bound" - Patty Loveless). Daryl produced Catherine's debut CD entitled "Shy Moon" which received critical acclaim.
Catherine is quick to help out wherever she can. She has been a regular on the "Variety Club Telethon" in Vancouver and her native Winnipeg, Manitoba for over 15 years. She organized a "Public Awareness Benefit" for a fellow musician who was a victim of theft. She has performed for "Timmy's Telethon" and the "Children's Wish Foundation".
Catherine won the national "Vocal Warz" competition in Toronto and was named "Canada's Hottest New Vocalist". She has sang and acted in countless television and radio advertisements including McDonald's, Mazda, Shell, Mattel, Molson's, Labatt's, Coors Light etc.....
Whether she's singing Jazz, Blues, Country, Pop or Rock, Catherine "delivers". She has an amazing range and her stage presence and bright smile will light up any room. She is always professional. With her great attitude and sunny disposition her colleagues profess, "she is a joy to work with."
GORDON MAXWELL: vocals and bass
Gordon has been singing and playing bass since he was a young child. He has a degree in music and is also an accomplished pianist. The combination of his extensive academic training with his natural vocal talent have kept Gordon in demand for live performance and in the recording studio for years. He is one of the most sought after studio singers in Western Canada, having worked on hundreds of recordings with various producers on other artist’s records, film soundtracks, and commercial jingles.
Gordon is also an award-winning songwriter and a veteran bassist, playing concerts and touring and recording with such greats as Lisa Brokop and Ian Tyson. As a member of the country rock group One Horse Blue, Gordon wrote and performed on the group’s Canadian 1 hit single, “Hopeless Love”.
BILL SAMPLE: piano and keyboards
Keyboard player Bill Sample has worked as Music Director for Grammy award-winning composer David Foster, and performed with a virtual "who's who" of the music business, including Celine Dion, Brian Adams, Peter Cetera (Chicago), Kenny Loggins, Michael Bolton, Kenny G, Sheena Easton, Kenny Rogers, and many others.
He has been Music Director for Anne Mortifee, Shari Ulrich, Variety Club Telethon for 10 years, and Telemiracle for 7 years, and is currently Music Director for Leon Bibb. As a session musician, Bill has played on and produced numerous film scores, jingles, and albums. He co-starred in the TV series "The Jim Byrnes Show", as well as "The Improv Comedy Olympics", which aired on CBC. His recent collaboration with vocalist and songwriter Sue Leonard resulted in the highly acclaimed CD Leonard & Sample - Bend.
In the jazz idiom, Bill has performed with Mel Torme, Dee Daniels, Paul Horn, Art Pepper, Fraser MacPherson, Don Thompson, and many of Vancouver's best jazz players. He also writes and arranges in all styles from full orchestra to childrens’ choir.
SHAWN SOUCY: drums, percussion, and background vocals
Shawn Soucy has played on numerous recordings and performed extensively on the local, national, and international scenes. Highlights of Shawn’s musical career include being named All-Star Drummer for five years consecutively, 1993-1997, by the BC Country Music Association, and being nominated three years consecutively, 1996- 1998, for the All-Star Drummer award by the Canadian Country Music Association. He was nominated for a Juno award in 1988 with Alibi for Country Music Group of the Year.
He has worked with many international recording artists including Ellen McIlwaine, Patricia Conroy, Doug and the Slugs, Johnny Ferriera and the Swing Machine, Farmer’s Daughter, and Gary Fjellgaard.
Shawn has appeared in music videos and performed in musical variety shows and film productions. He is also a skilled graphic designer and digital video editor and has produced a promotional video for Hip Pocket.
