RIP
Amartyr are an original 5 piece metal band hailing from the brutal and intoxicating heavy metal depths of Brisbane. The band play an exciting form of mosh friendly metal with influences ranging from the hardcore styles permeating modern metal, to traditional thrash, as well as European epic moments and dissonant noise sections.
Amartyr has existed as a musical project for a number of years, first starting as a jam band playing covers and rocking out in their bedrooms by founding members Jamie Clarke, Michael Funnell and Michael Clarke. Since then the band quickly matured with the additions first of prodigal drummer Daniel "Cowboy" O'Brien and then of former Uruk-hai and Kraven member Dylan Rostron on vocals. At the start of 2008 however, founding member and lead guitarist Funnell left the band in pursuit of a career in the Armed Forces. A quick replacement was found in the guise of Kurt Patrick, who has recently added his more than capable axe skills to the Amartyr juggernaut as it rolls across the heavy music landscape.
Finally armed with a full set of heavy pit thrashing tunes the band has gigged extensively across Brisbane and the south east of Queensland, with shows at both the Illustrious Phoenix heavy metal club (now Rosie's) and the Inferno club at Brisbane's Step Inn as well as gigs in Strathpine & Ipswich.
Amartyr joined local friends and metal juggernauts Screaming Dawn on a quick fire North Queensland tour in June, supported locally by Silent Screams, Echoed Silence and Amongst The Shadows, which took in dates in both Cairns and Townsville.
The band recorded a demo in late 2007 that sold out on tour, and are curently putting the finishing touches on their EP titled "Breathe In The Floods," recorded by Drew Davis which they will launch late in 2008. The band now is working to a hectic schedule in preparation of their eventual assault on the southern states in support of the EP.
Watch this space!!! Amartyr are going to make this a year to remember with their debut EP, new merch and a whole lot of massive shows.
"The technically melodic Amartyr prove to be a revelation of independently threatening guitar, bass and drum lines co-relating to chase up rhythms." -Rave Magazine.
