Nakula is a Sanskrit word that directly translated means "river with no banks" or "endless flow of water". It's about the creative life force energy guiding us in a collective evolution towards peace.Starting as a cross cultural project for "The Global Village - Splendour in the Grass 2007",and essentially the brainchild of Dharma Bradridge and Bunya G-Calero, Nakula was born from the desire to experiment and create cross-cultural fusions, searching for the spaces where freedom & equality exists, a place where the music & musicians can breathe new life from ancient roots. Our bloodlines stream from various ethnic backgrounds: Spanish, Sumateran, Arabic, Irish, English, French, and Gypsy. And the music is a mix of spanish & flamenco lyric and styles, west javanese salendro instruments with latin, middle eastern, indian, dub, triphop and hiphop elements.
Since our beginnings we've mostly been performing as a 2 to 4, sometimes with dancers, sometimes as DJ's. Experimenting with the live'n'electro crossover, writing new songs, reworking classics, and recording. We love to play at cultural & community events, festivals, fiestas, in the park, at the theatre, in our lounge room.
