Only the words have been changed. Santa Clause brought Larry West his first guitar from the Sears Roebuck catalog in 1956. he struggled with the Silvertone, and How To Play Guitar In 7 Days book, for months and was getting nowhere. His parents, seeing that he wouldn't quit, decided on lessons. After a couple years he got an audition with a local dance band, and was hired. His dad was so impressed, he bought Larry a brand new Les Paul Junior. Playing with George Perry's Aristocrats was a great experience and he was making pretty good bread. He teamed up with fellow band members Ray Phillips and Gary Dooley to form the Ray Phillips Trio, A modern Jazz group. When people would tell Larry ,"You better study hard so you can get a good job." He thought, "What do I need a job for?" He began studying Jazz seriously, and noticed many Jazz greats involvement with something called the Beat Generation. Soon after this Larry West was abducted by aliens...................................................... .................Larry West was on a freight train, headed east to nowhere in particular, when he met beat poet, Mike Gwinn. They joined forces and went "On The Road" stopping at every coffee house between North Beach, Venice Beach, Gaslight Alley, and Greenwich Village. Larry playing Monk chords on his guitar to ad atmosphere to Mike's poetry readings. Late one night after leaving the City Lights bookstore, Larry West was abducted by aliens...................................................... .................................................Larry West was at his pad in Haight-Ashbury one night when Mike Daly came to the door and asked if he would be interested in joining a new rock band . Larry said "Why not?" The band became The Mystery Trend, They played mostly original music and Larry became very inspired by his fellow songwriting partners. The music scene in San Francisco was blossoming , and there was an extensive community of musicians searching for something new. Next door to the Mystery Trend's studio was a band called The Great Society. One day the lead singer, Gracie Slick, came over to show a new song she and her brother Darby were working on, Don't You Want Somebody to Love. Soon after, the two bands did a concert together at the Bridge Theater in Sausalito. That night , after the show, Larry West was abducted by aliens...................................................... ...............................Larry West was at his pad in La Honda one day when his buddy, Al showed up and said, "Lets go up to Skyline. Their having a hootenany and we could score." Larry said his VW bus was broke down , but Al told him "I got us a ride." They went outside, and got in an old Ford. Al said, "Meet our driver, Neal Cassidy." Later that night, Larry West was abducted by aliens...................................................... .................................................Westweed was playing as house band at the Pizza King on the board walk in Santa Cruz. It was a kind of sleazy joint . but the pay was good, plus all the free pizza and beer they could consume, made it easy to show up and play five nights a week. The only thing that bothered them was all the Louie Louie they had to play. Their manager (unnammed) was a big time dealer. one night He was giving the drummer, Ried Starmer, a ride home, they were stopped for speeding, and they got popped for a joint. When Reid contracted Hep in jail, they put him in the hole, where he died three days later. On the way back from the funeral, Larry West was abducted by aliens...................................................... .................................................Larry West, Larry West, Larry West , Larry West, and Larry West where returned to Earth where they formed the band, WEST OF OREGON They have no plans to perform live as a group, but you might catch Larry West sometime, at one of his solo performances around Southern Oregon.
