About Me

I am an artist, musician and writer who performs and exhibits in the New York /New Jersey area. My music, art and writing all feed off each other dealing with a large range of issues and topics including, nature, healing, social awareness and above all the creative process. It is my dream to share this music and art with the world bringing people happiness and joy. The Makeshift orchestra is a revolving cast of people, players, clowns and sometimes troublemakers who help bring my music to life with their energy and enthusiasm. Hope everyone is enjoying the day! Sand Forest the Twisting Spines:In learning about the Local plants of my area and in using them for medicine and food I feel welcomed into their process of birth, growth and decay. Following them through the seasons, I have become part of their process and have seen how we depend on each other. Since this awakening, they have become tools and inspiration for my art. From these Sand forests, I have attempted to create small tiny universes, which express the ones that live in my imagination. These finished environments are my offering to the plants, which I have used in the construction of my art.(Below) Into The Ink: This work was created from 1999-2003 while attending the School of visual arts. Pen and water color, oil, etching and drypoint.

I had not painted for about two years. In dealing with life’s’ challenges I learned to channel my creativity through nature learning much about herbs, plants and birds. One day while finding a Blue jay feather I had a very strong feeling “paint with me”, at first I thought of a quill pen and attempted to write with some left over ink, I didn’t have much Success. Then while attempting again I decided to spill a glob of ink onto the Paper and then looking at the feather smeared it into the ink. Once again after years I was doing what brought me so much joy, painting! I smeared the ink around and after a while they turned into shapes and those shapes turned into other things. I use a color at a time and concentrate on what those colors mean to me using the knowledge of ones chakras, meaning of color and important healing ideas in my life. I soon realized that these were healing paintings and have had many signs since which pointed me in the direction of healing the ones I loved with them including myself. And so begins the journey of “The Healings”"Metal Horse"(above) and "Insight"(Below) where two other songs performed at the Suffern Library with Caleigh and Adam Makofske. Metal Horses is about trains and Insight inspired by the documentary based on Stephen Hawking, "A Brief History in time."

Sounds Like: Over the last three years I have been lucky enough to find inspiration from many things in life, which has resulted in a large catalog of new songs and series of songs. One muse of mine is movies; I have written over 40 songs based on movies, documentaries and foreign films. Another inspiration has been public libraries, the people I have met there and books, movies and resources inside. I have actually just finished a grant funded project which consisted of a performance of music, prose and poetry created in and influenced by the library. Other series include songs on weaving; Wave hill, Nature, Birds, herbalism, my grandmother, science, lullabies and a couple jingles based on my favorite T.V shows..."Rose" This song was inspired by one of my favorite books as a child and was performed with Caleigh Drane at the Suffern Library in Suffern New York. This performance was at the Jewish Home in Rockleigh where I was lucky enough to be able to bring the makeshift orchestra so I could show my dear Grandma ma what I do.I have written many songs inspired by my friend Yukako's weaving shop and the work she does there. One of them is called, "Scarf" which you can see above performed at the Perch in Brooklyn with Leslie Kubica.Zombie eyes!
