You may have heard the music of Garret Somers and his former band Liquid Planet on MTV’s “The Real World†but, weren’t aware of who was behind those Audio creations.LA-based artist Garret Somers, steps forward with a stirring and reflective collection of cool, propulsive melodies. As a BMI Songwriter, Composer, Producer, Vocalist and Guitarist. Garret wears a lot of hats and will be the first to tell you that he doesn’t enjoy a lot of the music business side. However, with all that under his belt, the time had come to focus on just Songwriting. “That’s it! Until, I have to Market and Promote the next CD.†Garret says laughingly.Born and raised in the rural areas of Brazoria County, Texas. Garret got his fill of Acoustic Styled Country music. At the age of 6, his first guitar was an acoustic and he was soon dying to get his hands on an electric. After seeing the Rock Group Kiss at the Summit in Houston Texas. He was stunned and immediately gravitated to the electric side of Rock and Roll. “I loved the whole package. Playing music so loud in a place as large as the Summit or the Astrodome. Those were my second Homesâ€, said Garret. “I saw the best of the best and that’s all it took for me to realize my Path.†He was also Influenced by the varied Vinyl sounds of Mike Oldfield, Jean Michel Jarre and Pink Floyd, as well as some current favorites that helped give him all of the Production skills he’ll ever need in any Genre. After years of wood shedding, Garret threw his hat into the ring. He packed up and moved to Los Angeles California, where he soon joined the band Liquid Planet. The band was enjoying International radio exposure as well as having there songs placed in a several Independent Films. Somers was asked to collaborate on the next CD entitled “The Future Ain’t What It Used To Be†which Featured the drumming of Ray Luzier (Korn/DLR), a collaboration with Richard Ross ( Neil Schon) and a Cameo by Radio Legend Shadoe Stevens (American Top 40/Craig Ferguson). After a 3 year production battle due to the complexity of the CD. All of the attention was on the Studio Recordings and tempers were heated over creative differences and the direction of the CD. None the less, successful airplay in Europe and Japan were not enough to keep Garret in the band. After leaving LP, Garret realized that it’s all come full circle with the next round of songwriting. All of his new material was written on acoustic guitars. No electric guitars were used in the process. “I am very proud of my collaborations with Liquid Planet, however I feel so liberated knowing that I can perform unplugged - acoustically anywhere or bring in the big guns, depending on the venue. The music we did with LP was so layered at times that you always needed several people to drop the samples, provide the live drum beats or loops through a drum machine. That’s cool but, I felt it was time to change my approach to music. It really was a matter of stripping it all down, eating a big piece of humble pie and taking my Man pill†laughs Somers.Inspired by life’s changes, Garret went under ground and wrote numerous songs to get the right batch of tunes for his next outing, "Deciding the songs and the flow was the most challenging, but the most rewarding at the same time. I have arrived as the Songwriter I have always wanted to be, let the games begin!â€Garret will be performing a series of unplugged shows.
