About Me
Born and raised in the Bay Area of California and now currently residing in Northern Virginia since 2003. Curtis Jerome McCain has been an aspiring musician for 20+ years. It all started with best friend and companion, his Father, the late (Mike “Big Daddy†McCain). Mike "Big Daddy" McCain was known as a phenomenal soul, jazz and r&b saxophonist, percussionist and vocalist in and around all of California. Curtis's Father taught him the history and theory of music at a very early age. Curtis grew up listening to endless amounts of jazz, latin, salsa, oldies, r&b, funk, rock, disco, pop and soul music. As a young child Curtis was always fascinated with watching his Father play the conga drums and he wanted to learn to play. During this time, his Father had noticed that Curtis also showed a strong interest in playing the piano. In 1988 Curtis's parents hired a professional music teacher and Curtis began learning basic piano. In time, Curtis progressed to classical, boogie woogie, salsa and big band. Within that same time frame of taking piano lessons, Curtis's Father would pull him aside and teach him rhythms and patterns on the conga drums. In the mid 90's, Curtis and his Father had agreed that it was time for him to take his music to the next level. Curtis's Father began teaching him various ways of improvisation on both the piano and the conga drums. Through his Fathers teaching, Curtis began to master hand percussion allowing Curtis to sit in with his Father on Gigs. All these different styles of music and experiences struck a creative nerve within Curtis. While staying strong in his roots, simultaneously Curtis began to venture into Hip-Hop. Utilizing his percussion, piano skills and his other musical influences, Curtis discovered a new interest in producing and rapping. In 1993 Curtis wrote his first rap and has been rapping, writing songs and producing ever since. Although Curtis enjoys very much writing songs, rapping, producing and playing the piano, his first love will and will always be...percussion. Here are some names of A-list musicians Curtis has been blessed to play with in his musical journey: Both Lonnie Jordan & Sal Rodriquez from the very popular r&b and funk group War, Nick Colionne, Gerald Veasly, Michael Manson, Maysa Leak from Incognito, Steve Oliver, Alan Hewitt, Patrick Lamb, Patsy Meyer, and many other talented musicians Curtis has been honored and blessed to share the stage with. All for the love of music. 2Kings3:15(NKJ)
