About Me

Knife & Scissors was created as a vehicle for the songs and ongoing musical journey of one Mr. Erich von Marko. As one-quarter of The Financial Group (of Baltimore), Erich has established himself as a versatile and innovative drummer and percussionist. Current projects include Soon Clyde, showcasing the songwriting of Greg Pardew, the "original" cover band Deep Cuts (www.myspace.com/deepcutssss), in which Erich performs as lead singer, guitarist, percussionist, and sometime drummer, and Mark Whiskey & The Sours, a tribute to the legend John R. Cash. Also, as a founding member of The Baltimore Afrobeat Society, Mr. von Marko has helped to keep the music and spirit of Fela Anikulapo Kuti alive here in the Mid-Atlantic region.
Looking backward, his other musical ventures have included a college-band stint on drums and cymbals with now-major label artist Shannon McNally. At the same time, he was creating organic funk with the septet Feldspar, 2 members of which have since become the Speakers. In the early '90s, Erich formed Every Day at Six, with friends Christopher Carlile, Clifford Hall, Chris B. Manthorne and his now-television celebrity brother Geof Manthorne ("Ace of Cakes"). So many other original and cover band projects litter Mr. von Marko's musical retrospect, that space here will hardly permit their mention. Suffice it to say that his musical curiosity and talents have opened many doors, while all the time leaving the door open to new sounds, styles, and interpretations. These include, but are not limited to, Rock, Pop, Metal, Ska, Reggae/Dub, Electronica, Folk, Americana, Eastern Music, Experimental, Vocal a capella, Garage, Punk, Funk, Jazz, and the list continues.
Knife & Scissors will be represented here on the streets of Baltimore in free, public street performance of original and cover material. Soon to follow will be a full-length original studio album, including material spanning at least half of Erich's 17-year career in music. Look for the exciting single, "On Your (Very Special) Wedding Day" on the page in coming month(s). Here's an original composition, played live with Four Guitars at the Charm City Cakes bakery:
