The story of BushDog actually began back in the fall of 2006. Jeff Pfeiffer, drummer of the central Arkansas-based band ElevenDays, and guitarist David Mead, who had played with the Little Rock area band XLR8 (and, ironically, a previous band called BushDog), began to toss around the idea of a cover rock band that would be unlike alot of the other cover bands in the Little Rock music scene. Having an affinity for "hair metal" bands such as Poison, Motley Crue, Van Halen, Whitesnake, and Bon Jovi, David and Jeff felt that there was still an audience for these hard rockin' 80's outfits, but also wanted to incorporate music by some of the newer groups as well.
While Jeff's personal interest is more in 80's metal bands, Dave (who also makes a living as a guitar teacher) is very well versed in such newer rock bands as Nickelback, Disturbed, 3 Doors Down, and Creed. His previous bands had enjoyed a great deal of local success, and in 2003 XLR8 was voted Best Cover Band in Arkansas. The two musicians found they worked very well together.
Over the next few months, the guys began laying the groundwork for the band and started selectively choosing songs that would be familiar to audiences of many different age groups. At the same time, the pair began trying out a succession of singers and bass players, while continuing to work up more songs to add to the growing set list.
Eventually, they settled on vocalist Beau Galle and bass player Michael Luetgers. Beau had just arrived in Little Rock from Houston, and had recently played in the band 90 lb. Wrench from Bentonville, AR. Beau's former bands included Houston favorites Zebra and Cornerstone. He came to the Little Rock area with the same idea for a band as that shared by the other guys, and was a perfect fit for the developing rock outfit. Bassist Michael Luetgers had recently moved to Little Rock from Minnesota. Michael's background is music by more progressive-rock type bands such as Primus, Tool, and A Perfect Circle, as opposed to the more "hard rock" style of the other members of the band
To complete the lineup, Dave suggested fellow XLR8 member Mike as the second guitarist. Every bit Dave's equal in guitar playing, Mike shares lead guitar duties and the two play well off each other, swapping lead riffs and trading rhythm lines. The band was now complete. When it came time for choosing a name, there was no need to look further than the name of David's former band, BushDog.
In November of 2007, vocalist Beau Galle left the band due to personal reasons. He was replaced by Dan Butler, formerly of the Little Rock based band Eden Crow. Dan brought a fresh, new vocal style to the band, while keeping the basic integrity of the band intact, and has established himself well as a frontman.
In August of 2008, Michael Leutgers quit the band and was replaced by ex-Minus 1 bassist Roger Lutrell. Roger has proved to be a worthy replacement for the departing Leutgers, with less of a progressive rock influence and more of a classic rock style of playing, and has fit in nicely with the band.
And, really...well, that's about it. Now let's get this party started...
