A woman who'll change the world

About Me

Hello! I'm Aishia M. King, a.k.a. Mama King, a teacher at Mary G. Montgomery High School. I teach reg/hrs English, modern/ethnic multicultural literature, sponsor the Multicultural Club, co-sponsor the National Honor Society, and co-sponsor the Scott Hi-Q Team. I am also one of the coordinators of the annual black history program entitled, "A Celebration of History". Oh, one last thing...I teach at Spring Hill College in the Upward Bound program. I started this page as a way to better communicate with my students about school issues but also to meet new people. You can ask me about anything. I might not answer everything but be sure that I am reading :). If you want to know more about what goes on inside my classroom, copy the link below and paste it in the browser. This is a link to my school's website and my teacher page: http://montgomery.mcs.schoolinsites.com/?PageName='TeacherPa ge'&StaffID='12809' ..[LOVEMYFLASH][/LOVEMYFLASH]

My Interests

I have varied interest. I guess what I like to do the most is surf the internet, watch intriguing movies, shop (til I drop)and create crafty things. Whatever I do, it'll have to keep me interested because I can bore easily.

Music:

I like all types and all styles. It just better sound good to me :).

Movies:

I LOVE suspense movies. If its a crime to be solved, riddle to be figured out, or treasure to be found, I want to see it. Despite loving "smart" films, I have one little secret...my favorite movie of all time is DIRTY DANCING! I know, I know, but nobody puts Baby, or even me for that matter, in a corner :).

Television:

Because I stay so busy and on the go, I don't watch too much television, but when I do watch tv, I tend to watch just about every CWTV show and a few escapist reality shows. I do like City Confidential and Forensic Files, and as a nerd should, I watch Headline News, CNN, and MSNBC. I's a self-proclaimed (and sometimes accused) dork. But I'm cool though :).

Books:

I'm a proponent of reading. I'm an English teacher, remember? My favorite book of all time is Their Eyes Were Watching God by the late Zora Neale Hurston. I've read all of her books. I also love Speak by Laurie Halse Anderson, One Hundred Years of Solitude by the great Spanish One (I'll come back with his entire name:)), To Kill a Mockingbird by Harper Lee, The Color Purple by Alice Walker, Mama by Terry McMillan, and A Lesson Before Dying by Ernest J. Gaines to name a few. My favorite play is The Crucible. Good story about true human character and instinct. Eclectic taste, huh?

Heroes:

My hero without a doubt is my father. He is a man of quiet strength; he never exerts himself. He demands respect without asking and gives without you having to ask. He is the meekest man I know. He's also my hero because I can see in him the greatest hero of them all...Jesus Christ. My father is a pastor and he truly lives what he preaches. Everyone can't say something like that but I surely can.

My Blog

Are we sisters or are we enemies?

My parents have four children: three boys and one girl. I have been surrounded all my life with boys and men and have learned soo much about them along the way. However, I was fortunate enough to be b...

Rude people...

I am proud to be a woman of the new millennium. God placed me in the right era because he knew that his child couldn't live in a time when women were under such harsh subjection and cruelty by the han...

A new gift...

I like to think of myself as a good student of life. The Lifetionary, as I often call it, is full of lessons to be learned, tests to pass, fail, or retake, and issues to overcome. In this recent phase...

Refined:Blacks Made of Pure Gold

I get so tired of those outside of the African-American community and their hidden racist tactics. Since it's no longer 'cool' or 'appropriate' to show blatant racism, we have those who think they are...
