I am here for Networking

About Me

Hello and welcome. I'm George Wesley Handlon and happy to have you drop by. Some of my friends know me as "Ojisan". The name "Ojisan" means "Uncle" in Japanese... it was awarded to me by Ms. Mamiko Nakagawa of Yokohama back in 1996, when we became online email friends, discussing our mutual appreciation for the music of legendary Japanese punk-pop rock group, "Shonen Knife". And, I've been known globally as "Ojisan" ever since. It's fun and seems to fit my personality well.
My primary interest is in Music. It's been a force in my life. For now, you'll not find my compositions here - but, you will soon. Nothing for sale here, either. I value the new friends I'm adding in this process and the old friends I'm in touch with via the Internet. The music I do feature here by other artists, is always positive and has something remarkable about it. Hope you'll enjoy these tracks & check out their "Spaces"!
I've lived a varied & interesting life, and thankfully, it's still going strong! After High School, served in the Marines from 1960-1964, was a professional musician (guitar) from 1964 to 1970... playing in the Miami and Los Angeles areas in that time. Met, worked with and opened for some fine musical talents then, such as Jose Feliciano, Bo Diddley, Ray Peterson, Dorsey Burnette, Freddy Cannon... and backed many of the famed singers in Wolfman Jack's Oldies Review shows in Southern California in that time: The Coasters, Shirelles, Big Joe Turner, Harmonica Fats, Ike & Tina Turner & the Ikettes, Dick and Deedee, Brian Hyland, Jackie DeShannon, and many others. I was playing in Manhattan Beach with "The Popcycle" at the time The Doors were the house band at the Whiskey. Those were great times! After leaving the music business for family in 1970... I worked in Surveying back in Florida: I was Chief Surveyor on an $8.5 million federal bridge project over the Peace River at Punta Gorda (Gilchrist Bridge) on U.S. 41 southbound, and then did the surveying for the popular "Fisherman's Village" complex at Punta Gorda on Charlotte Bay.
In the 1980s, returned to California to study metaphysics, working in various crafts (construction, education, manufacturing) while pursuing my interests in music, world culture and science). Explored the world of ethnic, world beat music and jazz. Amateur astronomy is a recent interest that I have found compelling! The beat goes on...

My Interests

I'd like to meet:

Hiromi (Uehara): She is a brilliant jazz keyboardist and composer. Her influences include Oscar Peterson, Jeff Beck, Ahmad Jamal and others, and she creates landscapes of musical imagery that are complex and full of little surprises. The best of the new generation. You can listen to her albums over and over and still wish for more.

R. Buckminster Fuller. Alas, Bucky has left this mortal sphere... but he certainly discerned and defined the way that things work most efficiently in this world, during his time with us.

Bob Dylan. No one else picked up on the music and images that resonated the soul of our times better than Bob, and no one put this into words and songs better. Thankfully, the never-ending tour goes on... each new album is pure genius and Bob is forever new and forever young. I'd like to visit with him up at the Malibu place and feed them chickens he has scratching around the yard. haha.

Zhang Ziyi. I'd just like to say hello to her... (and give her a special little native american gift I have saved for her!) my friend, the Princess Moonbeam. She is a sparkling spirit and her eyes reveal her true gentle soul. Ziyi is probably able to fly, without those wires they use for the films.

Hannah Montana. Naaah, I couldn't afford a ticket! haha. Miley Cyrus has a lot of talent and watch for her star to rise beyond the Disney factory... by her own right and under her own talent. Listen to Uncle George: Keep it together girl, you have the spark of greatness in you.
