About Me

OPEN GRAVE started in early 1999 from the ashes of defunct black metal bands OAK COFFIN and NOCTURNAL DECAY. At a time when black metal was reaching a pinnacle of trendwhoring, OPEN GRAVE decided to stand against such idiocy. The original members of OG were God Vomit, Decephalic, Rosemary's Afterbirth, and Deadson.
In 2000, drawing major influence from old BURZUM and the lyrics of old PROFANATICA, the demo "The Heavens Cry Black Tears" was released on tape format exclusively. Black Vault Rekords of France released it and ended up being a fucking RIP OFF. Only about 140 copies ever got pressed. Shortly thereafter, the "Grace of the Unholy" demo was self-released in limited numbers by the band. It was supposed to be part of a split release, but never made it to the light of day. Through the unholy kinship between God Vomit and Imperial of KRIEG, it was decided that a Split 7" record would be released. O.T. of Quebec black metal band AKITSA lent his talents to the intro track on the OG side of the split.
The subsequent period of dormancy resulted in a new line-up. In 2004, Flakpanzer 38, one-time KRIEG live drummer, joined on drums. Hacker of GRAFVOLLUTH took over bass duties, and guitarist Travesty joined the band. God Vomit also took over guitars and vocal duties. The 3-song "Pagan Fury" demo was recorded with all new material, and OG's only live performance thus far took place in Dallas, Texas in 2005. Shortly afterward, Hacker and Travesty left the band.
It is now 2008, and OPEN GRAVE is currently recording a full length record with new guitarist B.H. of HELCARAXE (usa) and keyboardist Nocturath, formerly of KULT OV AZAZEL. The new record will be titled "Fear".
Open Grave plays orthodox black metal.
