J-Vile is a fresh face on DC's vibrant, ever-expanding music scene and a breath of fresh air from the follow-the-leader norm in the industry today. He marches to the beat of his own drum, delivering a unique brand of signature hip hop to the game and the world. With charismatic style and natural flair, J-Vile spits fire. His ryhmes are raw but introspective. Marrying unorthodox takes on wide-ranging issues with infectious beats, Vile crafts memorable, undeniable jewels. This is definitely one artist to watch...
Born and raised in the North East section of the Nation's Capital, J was surrounded by the turbulence one could find in AnyHood, USA. His neighborhood was far-removed from the quiet cul-de-sacs of the 'burbs, with thier chic homes, white picket fences, and manicured lawns. It was here that J learned early: life isn't what you see in all those "feel-good" movies,"One bed room apartments, 4, 5 people deep. Being broke. To us hood kids, being paid equalled the good life; and the ones who achieved that were the go-getters, though we all knew the risks and witnessed the consequences of going in that direction. Before he got locked and sent to Lorton [DC's main correctional facility at the time, now closed], one of my older brothers came around to holla at my father one day. He pulled up in that new Benz, the one with the wipers on the headlights, like one of those Diplomatic rides. I was about 7 or 8, playing outside. I saw that there, and I was mesmerized. I wouldn't see him again on the outside for over 10 years, but from that point, for better or worse, the seed was planted." - J-Vile
J was alway maneuvering, moving in and out of different circles, trying to figure out where he fit into the scheme of things in this crazy world. "You've got to understand, my background was all over the map: A father that came up to DC from the tobacco fields of South Carolina, a junior high drop out, dirt floor house, tin roof; mother from Atlantic City, great grandmother was part Blackfoot Indian, kids scared upstairs while the adults were downstairs holding se'ances.....but what was really crazy were the mistakes that I was making. Trust me, there's no feeling like one minute rollin' with your so-called "boys" and the next looking around and being stuck out there alone with 15-20 dudes coming at you from every direction on enemy turf. They left me a bloody mess in the gutter. A lot of people I knew who got caught slippin' aren't here anymore."
A "smart dude" as he was called, J beat the odds, ultimately avoiding most of the major pitfalls that trapped many of those close to him. And in the process, he found the one thing that motivated him, allowed him a true release, and provided him with a forum to be heard: Music. Doors getting kicked in is not fun, trust me. And, conspiracy is a word you better put in your vocabulary real quick if it's not already.....My folks have been making noise with this music for a long time. They're talented and well-respected. They consider me talented, so to me, that's an honor. From serious complications before I was even born; to getting out of plenty of jams; I've beaten charges; walked away from tragic situations I shouldn't have, intact; survived in war zones. I'm happy to just be here. Life is hard; music is the easy part."
Soaking up game from childhood friends like DC's own Calico and Dreams and homies Luegar of Organized Rhyme Family, J-Vile's learned from heavy hitters in the game. J-Vile hopes to keep grinding, growing, living, creating with other artists, translating his thoughts, ideas, and experiences into music to be heard by the world. Get aquainted.
