About Me

CULTURE, BODY, TANGO............We assume that bodies -identically to cognitive aspects of our lives such as ideas and norms- are codified in terms of specific cultural structures. Different cultures moves differently. Thus, the bodies and their movements are objects of cultural restraints and norms. .......................................................The fluid threshold between the objective and subjective character of a body remits to an apparent contradictionary idea, that on the one hand we posess a body like any other instrument, and on the other hand we are a body: we form the body in the way we need it and we feel the body as a an absolut entity. Both aspects are not only intimately related to each other but they are the anthropological condition of any body. From this supposition we conclude that not just movement is codified in terms of culture but also our feelings. We suppose that with changing movements we are able to change feelings. ....................................................... Thus, Tango is for us not only a wonderful dance, but also a platform which allows us to unify both aspects of the bodies: we have a movement structure belonging to a certain argentine migratory history and certain feelings related to them such as melancholia, passion, etc. On the other hand we experiment with movements that recodify feelings and status quo structures and consequently modify any cultural context. ............ OUR TEACHING................................. ........................................................ Due to our anthropological perception of body and movement we try to adapt tango elements to specific cultural context and, -the other way round- we try to reconfigure the bodies to make them tango sensitive............................We find that movement is only possible, if we think the body as a whole. But we consider as well, that working on body parts is essential to make the body as a whole more striking.Movement and its respective feelings are structured by music. Tango movements come to life with music and independently wheter they break its sublime music pattern or they reflect them, they have always an aesthetic relation to music. Musical perception and sensibility is characteristical for our teaching. ......................................................... OUR PERFORMANCES .......................................................... We try to reflect the struggle of contemporary tango dances and their dancers in order to show the social and political conflicts of gender, nationhood, cultural industries.Nevertheless our primordial aim is to perform in an aesthetic manner by questioning it. The question of be aesthetic and to ask for a definition of it are two aspects of the same task. ........................................................... Due to our long experiences in teaching, our theoretical ambitions in choreogreography and our love to tango, we are convinced that our art is art. MyGen Profile Generator
