… I decided I was going to play the flute when I was 13, after listening to Jethro Tull’s record "Living in the past"; before that I thought I was going to keep studying the drums. For many years, I played in the Borgognoni Philharmonic of Pistoia, then at the age of 17, with the group “I Maghi”, I had the chance to play in ballrooms all across Tuscany. After falling in love with POP and ROCK music, I started to truly appreciate JAZZ, and discovered the wonderful works of Ellington, Parker, Coltrane, Dolphy, Davis, Corea, etc. In the 1980’s, in Rome, I had the chance to enter the world of contemporary music (which I had already began to appreciate during the years when I was studying with Roberto Fabbriciani) and to work for television and cinema (with such great artists as Ennio Morricone, Nicola Piovani, Luis Bacalov, Armando Trovaioli, Gianni Ferrio). Moreover, meeting saxophonist Baldo Maestri and pianist composer Roberto Pregadio, was of great importance for me. Collaborating with these two great musicians, part of the golden age of music – when you had to work hard to rise from the ranks and ALWAYS play live – has completely revolutionised my approach to the instrument. Even now, as a Conservatory professor, I always try to convey my passion for music in general and the application of instrumental technique to the various languages of music, with no exceptions whatsoever.
