I am here for Friends

About Me

I am a 40 year old mom. I am originally from Portsmouth, Virginia, but now make my home in West Virginia. Rick has been my wonderful husband for the last 20 years. He is from this area and we settled down here after he retired from the Air Force after 13 years of service. He is my best friend and the light of my life. We have learned together to take what life gives us and turn into a gift and consider a blessing. He has a caring and thoughtful soul, while at the same time not caring what people think of him. He has made me a better person for letting me share my life with him.
I have two beautiful kids ages 17 and 15, most of you all know who I am talking about...Samantha...That girl loves to read. Also, I can never get her off the computer, and she ALWAYS has some sort of music playing. (Although sometimes her choice of music is questionable....like The Campfire Song off Spongebob or Spiderpig.)I have never seen anyone read a book faster than she can. She is a great kid who has a great future before her. She has killer blue eyes and a warm infectious smile. She is looking forward to the future and growing every day, at the same time she needs to just let lose and be a kid. She is learning that mom and dad sometimes do know best. She has so many great opportunities before her, if she just chooses the right doors to walk through and keeps her mind on the right path.
Stephanie is my 15 year old...aka Shorty or Monkey as I call her. How can my baby grow up so fast? She is 6 feet tall at just 15. This girl is very random and outgoing. She loves to laugh. Sometimes I just have to shake my head and wonder that this crazy kid is kin to me, and yet she is more like me than she realizes. I am just too old to let it show. Although is is a typical teen with moods of hyperness and sometimes grumpiness, she has a sensitive and caring heart too. She also has beautiful blue eyes that crinkle when she flashes that smile. She also has legs (and feet) that go on forever. And NO she is NOT sexy...she is TOO young... so back off boys!!!! and Oh....she plans on being the next big sensation on the FOOD network...so why can't I get her to help with dinner AND cleanup?
They are typical teenagers. Both are pretty good kids and I have no complaints, but I do worry over them as any mom would. I got on Myspace to keep a very distant eye on them, and to hopefully hook up with some of my old friends. I also keep in touch with some of my kid's friends. Many of them call me "Mom" and I don't mind a bit. I take it as a compliment. I have a sense of humor that is out there at times and I can be random, so I guess I fit in a little with all those teenagers.
Then there is me. I don't like to talk too much about myself to the general public. I chose my personal friends very carefully and watch who I let into my life. If you are in my group, I am blessed by having you there. I just try to lead by quiet example and hope others follow.
Random things that make me happy: pizza, teddy bears, waterfalls, sound of waves crushing on the beach, standing in sand as the waves retreat, embroidery floss, computer games, anything soft and furry that loves you back, blue, quilts, Paula Vaughan pictures, hugs from my husband, talks with my husband, cookies, flowers that look like something rare and exotic but really grow in your own back yard, people who are true and real, Diamond Rio, Huey Lewis, warm sun and cool breezes, rain showers, mountains in the distance, trees that shade a narrow road, hearing my kids laugh, big fluffy snowflakes..as long as I am home safe and sound, A blanket of snow on the ground and trees before anyone ventures out, hot chocolate, life without drama, the smell and touch of a baby just from its bath, roller coasters, music, bubble baths, leaves dancing in the wind.
I found my layouts for Myspace on pYzam.com , but they also have really funny pictures !

My Interests

I'd like to meet:

Jesus and any of the gang up in Heaven. (I would love to hear first-hand accounts from people that lived in the Bible.) I would love to meet up with family members who have passed including the grandparents I never met, and my Dad who left us way too early. Former presidents and anyone who lived in the late 1800s or in colonial Williamsburg. Okay...basically make it to Heaven and talk to anyone I see. Hmm...I wonder if Elvis made it?
But I assume that this section is talking about live people that are in the here and now and that I want to hook up with who might be on MySpace, so here goes:
Old friends from Virginia District Nazarene church camp or churches I attended
Old friends from Cradock High School
Fellow people who cross stitch
Rick's old military friends
Any old friends from Portsmouth area
Any family members that are alive and kicking and have MySpace. (err...probably not many)
My kids' friends

Healthy reflections for the day..

Memory can be used for good or for evil. If you use your past as a source of learning, it's worth remembering. If, however, all you do is mull over your mistakes and punish yourself for your failures...

Life brings with it many doubts and fears. But the unknown and the untried have held more people back than any lack of ability. Most successes are never seen because they're never attempted. The cour...

Healthy reflections for the day

Light is meant to be shared. If you try to horde it or keep it covered, out of everyone's sight, you'll just end up smothering it. Try to close it in your fist so it doesn't get away, and it burns yo...
