Once upon a time, there was beautiful and wondrous era called the early 1970's, and during that near utopian of a time, Glam Rock reigned supreme. In the year 2007, it most certainly seems like something out of a fairy tale, especially since Glam produced some of the most heavenly pop music ever created. It was a long time ago, but it wasn't in a galaxy far far away, although it sure did seem that way.
In the context of the time, hippies and the so-called sexual revolution of the '60s had both become rather tired. Glam Rock with it's high brow fashion and glitter make-up was the complete antithesis of hippiedom, and during the early '70s, Glam trudged over that dated '60s countercultural movement in stylish platform heels. The attachment of Androgyny to the music, and an interest in Bisexual lifestyles, shook up many a conservative sexual more, and injected new life in to the sexual revolution.
Imagine a time where you could turn on your TV and catch groups like: Roxy Music, T.Rex, David Bowie, Sweet, Slade, Suzi Quatro, Gary Glitter and The New York Dolls performing on shows like: Top Of The Pops, The Old Grey Whistle Test, and Musikladen. You could even catch some of these groups performing on American TV shows like: The Midnight Special, The Dick Cavett Show and The Dinah Shore Show, so you could still latch on to the Glam Phenomenon even if you didn't live in Europe. You could turn on your radio and hear Little Willy by Sweet playing, or Space Oddity by Bowie or Bang A Gong (Get It On) by T.Rex, and if you were real lucky and lived in a city like Los Angeles or New York, you could go hang out with the Glam Rock Elite at Rodney's English Disco, or Max's Kansas City, or the Mercer Arts Center. It all seems like a dream now, but it really did happen.
Flash forward to the year 2005. Roxie Stardust is feeling trapped in the 2000's, and wishes she could go back to the 1970's, where she claims to really belong. Frustrated by the fact that she is unable to travel back in time, she decides to put forth her best effort to start a Glam Rock band instead, so that she can feel in touch with her roots, and share her love for the music with the world. With the intention of bringing some old time glamour, showomanship and Rock theatricality to today's music scene, which she feels are mostly at a loss in this new Millenium, she started posting ads to find other musicians to join her band. It took two years of searching, but she was able to find a great line-up for the band, which included: Roxie on Lead Vocals, Vee Shus on Guitar and Vocals, Danny Bang on Bass, and Eric Ascott on Drums. Their first mission was to Glam Up Chicago, IL, which was their homebase, and then move on to the rest of the world. Though they fell a bit flat when it came to world domination, they still achieved Roxie's goal of making people want to party like it was 1974. That line-up of the band is now defunct, but Roxie has not given up on following her Glam Rock Dreams, and she would like to start a new band in Portland, OR, which is the city she recently re-located to. Stay tuned for more news on that soon!
