XRNR {ex-er-ner} is defined as an algorithm which lives in eternity. XRNR is also the title of the first album created by Mavelvis {Mave-el-vis}.
XRNR is an experiment in the idea of genre free, or "mixed media" music. Definitely not meant for record labels looking to produce an album that has 14 songs that all sound the same. "XRNR" IS the genre created. It's a marriage between electronic and rock for the most part - where the story comes first and the style or genre follows.
Mavelvis and Mavis are nicknames that I, Craig Jennings, have had for a number of years now. It was given to me at the Hard Rock Cafe. I worked there in the mid-90's in New York City. One day while working a shift, a very attractive waitress told me she'd had a dream about me the night before. She said I was a singer on a big stage and my name was "Mavis". Mavis Jennings. I hadn't thought of myself as a "Mavis", but within a matter of days everyone, I knew started calling me by this name. Later, "Mavelvis" sort of morphed out of that. So there it is, my dissertation on my name(s). I currently perform as a singer with Cirque du Soleil's touring show 'Varekai', and as I write this, I'm in Australia where "XRNR" is officially BORN! YES!!! XRNR was written and recorded on the road. Sébastien Thériault, BJ & Michael Picton, (all Cirque alumni) were the core musicians that worked on the album.
As I've been working and singing on music that accompanies a couple of shows for the past years, it seemed only natural that XRNR's songs would flow as if to under score their own theatrical story. We didn't try to stay inside of any genre on this album as was stated before. Rather, we wanted to let the songs take their listener on a journey. Not unlike, say, an iPod shuffle moment that one finds to be almost fortuitous, as if destiny has selected the next track. Don't you love it when that happens?
This album is dedicated to the lives of Timmy Lewis and Kimmy Giardino.
Enjoy this ride.
